"What a bargain!"

I play on Ren Wei Shi instruments, so I was curious when I was asked to test a new product. I normally use Evah Pirazzi's, so the comparison was tempting, being that the Pirazzi?s are a little on the expensive side. I have played on Dominants in the past, liked their warmth and roundness of tone, but changed to the Pirazzi?s to get the extra dynamic performance. These Ren Wei Shi strings are a better playing string than the Dominants were, but not quite up to the Pirazzi level. Then I consider the price difference, and these strings actually perform better than the Dominants at about half the price. I also tried them on a $99 violin, and it?s amazing how the sound improves with just a $20 investment in top quality strings! All things considered, definitely a 5 star rating. Very good sound and playability, and at a price that you can afford to change them every 3 months.

Like the other reviewer, I play a Ren Wei Shi violin so I thought I'd try the strings. I found them really good strings for the price. Somewhat bright in tone. I take off one star for the E which I thought was a bit harsh sounding and didn't come with that plastic sleeve thing that keeps the E from digging into the bridge. Overall, as good as strings I might expect to pay twice as much for.

"G string does not play fast well"

I had recently ordered these strings and tried them on my violin. I normally use Dominant G,D, and A and Gold Label E strings, so I thought I would try something different ( I also wanted to try them because I used to play a Ren We Shei violin). After several minutes of having the strings on my instrument, I tried to play one of the exercises near the end of Mazas which works finger speed. When I tried to play fast on the G string with slurred notes, the pitches were all muddled together. I'm not sure exactly what the problem was, but shortly afterwards I put new Dominant and Gold Label strings on my instrument - the pitches came out clearly as ever. Thus, I give the product 3 stars.

"Great Price...but..."

I always am complaining about the bloated prices of violin strings. But these strings are actually amazing quality for the price! On my instrument, they produce a smooth, warm sound, but needed some time to break in. However, the aluminum-wrapped E string quickly unravelled within two weeks of installment, and as someone mentioned, it did not come with one of those plastic sleeve things to protect the bridge. I also experienced the problems with slurred notes on the G string--the violin groaned and mushed those notes together, but clarity improved after about two weeks. All in all, great strings for the price--I am going to keep using these!
