I've used these reeds when I know I will be breaking them a lot since they are pretty cheap. I usually have about 40% duds per box. You can easily see how poorly they are cut when wet and you hold them up to a light. I've been playing clarinet for over a decade and don't recommend these for experienced players, but they are good for beginners.
For jazz and dixieland performances when using an open-tip mouthpiece, I use standard Rico #2's and nothing else. In the softer strengths these reeds deliver an edgy, powerful tone that's perfect for these styles of playing and more overall flexibility than the others I've auditioned. Most of these play well out of the box, but the few that don't are often unfixable, so be prepared to throw away a few now and then. In harder strengths for general performance situations, there reeds are absolutely not recommended, however--the cut of these reeds, which makes them flexible and lively at low strengths, does not deliver the control and refined tone quality expected at higher strengths. Overall, for the beginning clarinetist or anyone requiring a soft reed, these are a dependable choice.
I play a B flat clarinet and have used Rico reeds from the beginning. My friends have used other cheaper brands and they would always break. They are usually a little more expensive but it is worth it. If you buy cheaper ones they will be break faster and you will have to be more and many cause you to pay more. I recommend these reeds to any clarinet player.
I always recommend this brand for my students because they are consistent. Rarely is there a dud in the box.
This box of 25 Clarinet Reeds was a great quality for a great price. I absolutely loved it.
