Rico Reserve Classic Bb Clarinet ReedsReserve Classic reeds have been designed for clarinetists by clarinetists in collaboration with Mark Nuccio, Acting Principal Clarinetist of the NY Philharmonic. They undergo a special cane treatment process that helps reduce reed warping, and the gradual tip shape adding more tonal warmth. The traditional tip thickness makes for a quick articulation. These reeds are offered in 2.0 to 4.5 including a 3.5+ and 4.0+ strength.Like the Reserve line, they use only the densest, lower internode cane for longer durability and consistency

I've played pretty much every brand of reeds out there. Rico finally got it right with these. They all played out of the box and broke in really predictably. I thought I wouldn't wind up liking them but they have a really good tone and the cane is really the best I've seen since the Morre reeds. I'm putting down my Vandorens! When are you coming out with an Eb and Bass Clarinet?
I have tried most everything out there at one time or another. These are the best I have played without question. They are resilient, have a great tone, a great feel, are very stable and consistent. I have used them in a wide variety of situations- club dates, shows, orchestra, etc. in a variety of styles. They have come through with flying colors. I like playing them so much that I have sold all of my other stock of reeds to play these exclusively.
I must say, Rico has out done themselves. I am a student planning to major in Music Education/Theory. I tried other reeds Rico has made before a couple of years ago, and then switched to the Vandorens. I went to the store to get more reeds and the guy said said,"You know who makes good reeds now, Rico." I stood their confused. The guy thought so too. He said these were the ones. So I bought these reeds and I was amazed. From the very first note, the sound was pure and resonant. I didn't have to go through the whole box to find the perfect reed, they were all perfect. I am going to put my Vandorens away and keep these from now on.
I was a mess when I was preparing for my college auditions. Having used Vandoren traditional "blue box" reeds for years, I was coming to the realization that consistency was anything but attainable with these reeds. In panic, Is started ordering reeds, but stayed within my trusted Vandoren line, I tried V12s and 56s but neither style matched the ideal combination of strong tone color and articulation efficiency I needed for the highly-competitive university world. The day of my audition I was chatting with another hopeful musician, who introduced me to the Rico Reserve Classics. Stating that they were used by the virtuoso clarinetist Martin Frost, I was highly skeptical. Rico's are only for 5th graders right? Wrong. When I bought these reeds the difference was immediate. They are incredibly consistant, rich and flexible.I will never return to what I used before, and if you're looking for a new cut of reed, there's no better place to start then with Rico Reserve Classic's.
Rico Reserve Classic reeds are the most consistent reeds on the market. I do not have to resurface, balance or do much to them and they play right out of the box! I keep them in the Rico Vitalizer Case with 73% packet and they never warp. I applaud Rico for their ingenious new process with these reeds. I haven't found a warped one yet. I've struggled with other brands of reeds for decades and I will never use another brand of reed again! My clarinet studio is almost 100% Rico reed users and they love them. I can't see spending money on a box of reeds that will only produce one or two good reeds when the Rico boxes are mostly 100% playable straight out of the box. You definitely get more for your buck with Rico reeds. Not to mention they get maximum reed vibration and resonance without having to do much work with embouchure! Beautiful effortless playing! Bravo!
