Rico Royal Bb Clarinet ReedsDesigned for a wide variety of playing situations, Rico Royal is a high-quality reed for serious saxophone and clarinet players, yet is priced affordably to meet the needs of both professionals and students. French filed for freedom of response, especially in the low register, adding clarity to the tone, and making soft attacks easier. They are ideal for the advancing player.

The Rico Royal Reeds are much, much better in qualtiy than the regular Rico reeds. Rico Royal's French cut is better for advancing students. I use these reeds for marching because they are cheaper and less valubale than vandoren reeds. But they still give you a good tone and its quite easy to articulate. I use vandoren reeds for concert and competition. I recomend these reeds for advancing students and marching students
On the recommendation of our music teacher we upgraded from regular Rico to Rico Royal for my daughters, who are both in their first two years of learning the clarinet. The sound is noticeably better, and my daughters play more confidently.
I've always had Rico Royal reeds on hand over my 30 years of playing. They're a great value and have a sound and character all their own. PROS: All of the strengths offer a delicate, subtly complex tone that's especially pleasing at softer dynamics--ideal for delicate playing. They have a brighter tone than the comparably-priced Rico La Voz reeds. The reeds speak easily, break in quickly, don't require much fixing up, and are very consistent. CONS: Tone can become unfocused and inconsistent when playing fortissimo--I prefer the Vandoren V12 when this is a consideration. The Rico Royal reeds also do not last as long as most other reeds. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: These are soft reeds. A Rico Royal 3 is slightly softer than a Vandoren 2.5 reed.
