Rigotti Gold Alto Saxophone ReedsRigotti Gold Alto Sax Reeds represent the finest in precision and playability. Hand picked and precisely cut, these reeds are consistent, focused and durable. Box of 10.The Best CaneEts Rigotti owes part of their reputation to their materials. The canes of the Var, and Cogolin regions of France are among the best in the world. Grown alongside rivers and streams, in an large area that is maintained all year round.CuttingRigotti Gold reeds are cut during a winter afternoon over four months from December to March. When the cane has reached maturity (after two years when it measures seven to eight meters with a diameter of 26cm to 32cm), it is cut left in the open where it will be worked on. The work on the reeds is split into stages: we use a 'plumes' to dispose of all the excess and 'feathers', we only keep the 2 or 3 meters from the base (the rest is either burned or used as bamboo). Then the tubes are cut (from the base to the top), and the knots are thrown to obtain batons suited to music. This is where the true work starts, each tube is calibrated to a particular instrument. The double reeds are for the oboe and bassoon, which must be wet to be bent and attached.

I first knew about Rigotti from the now discontinued Queen reed. They were a cheaper and unfilled version of the Rigotti Golds.
At first, I was very content with my vandoren zz's, but my friend recommended that I try these, and so I bought a box hoping they would be as amazing as she said they were. As soon as I got them in the mail, I tried them out. I played for a little while on one and I fell in love. The tone on these reeds in magnificent. :) It's so rich, and warm, and it has so much depth. They have a very open tone, and I just love them! I think everyone needs to try a box of these. They sound great, and have pretty good consistency. I don't think I've gotten a bad one yet. :)
They are very good reeds, possible the very best, and I have yet to find a reed that even consistantly rises to their level. Don't waste your money on other reeds. Buy the best. Whether a beggining sax player or a college proffesor, try Rigotti.
There are only a few reeds I would recommend either to professionals or my students. Rigotti is one of those reeds. Typically you play a half strength greater than what you normally do even though the cane is very dense on these reeds. You will get more per box that play with Rigotti than just about any other reed. Fuller, larger, and clearer tone plus greater ease of intonation, not to mention lasting longer, Rigotti can't be beat.
I wrote a review a few days ago about Vandoren Java Red cut alto saxophone reeds and how amazing they are and how they're the best reeds I've ever used. I take that statement back. I got my Rigotti reeds late in my shipment so I didn't try them out alongside the other reeds I had ordered. I got the package today and opened the box, grabbed one reed out and started playing some jazz. The one word I have to say to describe it was WOW! The reed is light, yet smooth, deep, dark, and delicious in tone. I haven't had a reed that responded as well as a Rigotti Gold reed. Anybody shopping for a fantastic reed - search no more! Rigotti Golds are the way to go. Don't waste your money on a box of Rico reeds...go for the real prize winner - Rigotti.
