Rovner Dark Tenor Saxophone Ligature and CapThe Rovner Dark offers the free-blowing performance of a string ligature with the convenience of a standard screw ligature. Rubberized polyester fabric and machined brass hardware.Rovner Ligatures also greatly improve reed playability. Reeds that are totally unplayable on other ligatures will often perform well with the Rovner. The ability of the Rovner Ligature to extend reed life is unparalleled. More rigid ligatures actually hammer the cane fibers during vibration, eventually destroying the reed's tonal vibrancy. Not so with Rovner; most players find their reeds will play until the tips finally succumb to fatigue and fall apart!Selecting A Rovner LigatureDue to the design of the Rovner ligatures, they fit a wide range of mouthpieces.

I bought a Otto Link NY 7* in May 2012 and wanted a Rovner Ligature. I purchased, tested and verified the following Rovner ligatures.
Rovner Dark Tenor Sax Ligature & Cap (3ML-NY)
- This ligature is specifically designed for the Otto Link NY (because of the top ridge not normally found on other mouthpieces) and fits perfectly but is considered a "basic" sounding ligature.
Rovner Mark III Baritone Sax Ligature & Cap (C3ML)
- You can make this work as long as your careful when mounting and tightening. I was able to fit a Vandoren ZZ #3. The Mark III is considered a "darker" sounding ligature.
Rovner Versa Tenor Sax Ligature & Cap (V-3MLT)
Fits Large Metal Tenor Sax Mouthpiece
- The V3MLT is the best "advanced" fitting Rovner ligature so far and is considered a "darker" ligature with the ability to modulate the sound with the different metal inserts. The V3MLT fits just right and I will be keeping this V3MLT Versa Ligature.
I can't believe how much of a difference this ligature makes. I put it on an Otto Link 8* STM-NY mouthpiece on my intermediate Conn tenor and , WOW! I have always believed practice is more important than equiptment, but does the resulting sound ever make you want to practice. I have more control now than I have ever had. My power and tone are much improved. I think I can put off upgrading my Sax for awhile, but when I do the Link and Rovner are going on the new horn.
