Product Overview and Specifications
RUNYON BIONIX

The revolutionary new Bionix, the best yet for Jazz. Many saxophonists have to depend on a mouthpiece that simply isn't designed to handle the difficult and tricky tones in the altissimo register. Santy Runyon's new Bionix mouthpiece is the solution you've been waiting for. Runyon's most sensitive and responsive mouthpiece is finally here. The Bionix has been specifically designed to produce rich, full tones in the altissimo and upper register ranges of the instrument.

Designed to enable the saxophonist to execute these elusive harmonic tones with ease and exactness, the Bionix comes with a high baffle close to the tip of the mouthpiece while the length of the facing is shortened slightly. Unlike other high baffle mouthpieces, with actually impair the lower register tones by choking or pinching the sound, the low tones produced by the new Bionix are full and rich, as a result of the mouthpiece's unusual aerodynamic design.

No matter how superior the design, no mouthpiece can perform adequately if made from inferior materials. Runyon Products believes that quality starts in material selection. For this reason all their mouthpieces are designed around engineering materials, not general purpose ABS plastics and inferior grade metals.

Since good tonal production depends on the vibrations of the mouthpiece as well as those of the reed, the vibration potential (flex modulus) of the mouthpieces is an essential component. Through extensive experimentation, Santy has selected a plastic alloy as the best possible substance for this mouthpiece, a material with the same flex modulus as that of hard rubber. This special alloy is superior to hard rubber in several important aspects. It possesses greater dimensional stability and impact strength. This means that it doesn't chip as easily; moreover, because it is more resistant to heat, it is also more resistant to warpage.

I just tried my Runyon HR Spoiler and thought it was just fantastic. I couldn't believe the projection from this mouthpiece. The altissimo range has never been so easy and loud for me. Yes, I can even play piano on this thing one minute and fortissimo the next without any strain or change of embouchure. I think this mouthpiece is highly underrated, if rated at all. The intonation is also flawless. You should've heard all the compliments from my neighbors - not one complaint. Oh boy-oh-boy !
