I've owned a couple of these SKB cases. For the most part I like them as a safer alternative to a "gig bag" which means you shouldn't used this in any way other than the way you would use a gig bag. One case was destroyed when I loaded it with other equipment. It was crushed between a couple Avil type cases. The trombone survived. I intended to use the case as a carry-on for planes because they don't fit well in the overhead compartment. The second case I purchased I did check in as baggage (with Fragile stickers). It went halfway around the world and back without a problem till the leg from BWI to Atlanta. The luggage monkeys did their thing and crushed my new SKB case, no damage to the horn. They did buy me a new case. Bottom line...treat it as if you would a gig bag.
For the most part I like the case, it is light, firm, and small, but, there is a potential problem with the latch system. It seems to me that the latch could be opened inadvertently. The latches protrude from the case and could catch on something, especially if you were to have to check it in airline baggage. Many of the smaller planes have tiny overhead compartments and the flight attendants will demand that you check the horn. I would like to see the company design a better system for closing the case. I returned it.
