I got this instrument used and even with the dings and nicks, after a tiny bit of cleaning and new strings it's a sound beginner instrument. I especially like the fine tuning pegs on all the strings, it makes tuning a breeze. The one thing I DON'T LIKE AT ALL IS THE CASE. It's a nice hard plastic case, don't get me wrong and it has room for a spare bow, but that's ALL it has room for besides the violin itself. There are two spots under the violin for storage. The best you could get in there is a rubber violin mute, rosin, and MAYBE a tuner/metronome if it's tiny. The point is, there is NO ROOM FOR A SHOULDER REST. I know beginner students, they forget things. If they have to put the rest outside the case, it's going to get lost. I recommend, if you get this instrument, invest in a great case with lots of room and a good guarantee. A beginner student needs a heavy duty case most because they are the most likely to damage the instrument and need space to bring their supplies and music. (Also, if you're going to get this as an economic violin, a great case is a worthy investment that will last as long as the child fits that size of instrument.)
I have a bunch of these violins in my school orchestra, along with violas and 1/2 cellos of the same brand. They work great and are constructed well. The pegs move smoothly and the fine tuners are not likely to bend or bind. None of mine have had to be retired in 5 years, so they should last most students until they are ready to step up to a pro or intermediate model.
