I?ve been playing on a 1970's Jet Tone Al Hirt Model A for the past 4 years and during that time I have been searching for another model from the exact time year(s) it was made. I asked a mouthpiece salesman at Schilke if the new Faddis mouthpiece was a good backup in the horrible chance that I lose the Jet Tone or get it stolen. Its outer rim is slightly smaller, but the sound of my extreme register explodes out of the horn just like my Jet Tone. There is little difference when I?m playing either of the two. This mouthpiece is definitely worth every penny so if you can, try it out at a Schilke dealer before you buy it
Well, just like the player this piece was designed for, this is the biggest and baddest out there. I love heavyweight mouthpieces for the centering and slotting they afford the player with minimal effort. I most recently played a heavyweight Callet DT-10 which offered the best response of any piece I had played previously. Just pulling the Faddis piece out of the box I knew I was in for a treat! Despite the shallow cup, you can get a darker sound out if it when needed, and when you need to cut through the section, that sound is available as well. I've watched Faddis playing this piece for years now and always wondered if it was as good as he makes it sound. But let the player beware, unless you are used to playing a heavyweight piece, it may take a bit of adjustment time. But hang in there with the long tones and be careful not to overblow. This piece is highly recommended!
tone/quality/range just explodes and sounds amazing.
