Schilke G1L Custom Series G/F Trumpet with Tuning BellProduces a brilliant tone and is very effective in high register symphonic work. Key of G tuning bell model with additional F bell and slides.

Schilke's F/G Trumpet is a great instrument for the consummate professional who wants a high horn with a slightly broader, deeper, fuller sound than the A/Bb piccolo. The standard #5 bell provides a sweet, open, bright sound that works well for soprano coloratura works and is best on the "F" side of the horn.
There are three bell options available with the high G bell (the standard #5, an optional #7, and a #8 the last is identical to the P5-4 piccolo).
I recommend purchasing an additional G bell and definately adding the optional #2 "E" bell to convert your horn into an E trumpet which is essential for the Hummel Concerto, useful in operatic works and baroque works where you can perform the D trumpet music in the key of Bb and a lighter sound.
You can also order your Schilke with an optional first valve ring/thumb hook which helps tweak intonation. With all these delicate bells, its a smart idea to get a triple or quad case to protect them when not in use.
Choose standard silver plate for a brighter sounding horn or gold plate for a darker tone and superior corrosion protection for your instrument.
While ordering everything at once is expensive, overall, it is less expensive and much less hassle than adding these options later when you'll have to return the horn to the factory for each fitting.
I've owned my G1Lb for maybe 20 years. In F it is the sweetest and most versatile horn around. I invariably get compliments on its tone. Use it with a 3C or equivalent mpc as a small C symphony trumpet, or use a picc mpc for JSBach C trpt parts and it's terrific. Only problem is the second slide is too long, but fix that by using the G slide. In E it also plays quite well. But in G I can't make it work for me. The 2nd slide is too long, making for multiple out-of-tune notes. It can't be made shorter because there's no room for the structure. Also, with the picc bell attacks are dry. With the large bell, pitch is better but attacks are worse. I do find, though, that the more I am in shape the less obvious these problems. So for a very strong player it might be OK. Schwartz and the NY Trpt Ensemble certainly got great results in G.
I've had one of these horns for almost 10 years now and never regret buying it in the slightest! Great horn all around.
It provides such a great sound over the smaller piccolo trumpets (any brand). This horn has always been my choice when most play a picc in an ensemble. I've played Handel's Messiah MANY times on the G and would never dream of using a picc.
The only thing I'd want is a 1st valve slide, but if you take it to Schilke, I'm pretty sure they'd fix you right up. Wait, why haven't I done this...[shakes head]. This isn't to say the intonation is bad, it's just I'm big on using slides all the time on all my horns--intonation is a big deal to me.
DEFINITELY WORTH A TRY!
