The Schilke ST20 Custom Series Tenor Trombone was designed to answer the needs of the professional level player needing a top performance instrument. The ST20 Custom Series features a .547-inch large tenor trombone with three interchangeable leadpipes plus an 8.5-inch bell in yellow brass or rose brass. This series also features a traditional wrap F Attachment design with an Axial Flow Valve. The ST20 is available with either a nickel or yellow brass end slide bow, and in a round or square shape main tuning slide to alter the overall response of the instrument to meet the needs of the player. The Schilke ST20 Custom Series Tenor Trombone includes a case and is available in lacquer finish.
This Schilke trombone is the counterpart to the successful ST-20 Axial Trombone launched in 2006. This ST-20 Series features a standard wrap design with a traditional rotor valve. This trombone expands the options available to the player looking for an instrument to customize to their playing needs.Bells
Schilke bells are 8 " hand-hammered bells available in Yellow or Rose Brass. Generally, a Yellow Brass bell will provide a strong fundamental sound with clarity and consistent overtone structure throughout all dynamic levels. With its higher copper content, a Rose Brass bell will provide a rich, dark sound at lower dynamic levels, but will tend to reach "red line" brilliance levels faster than a Yellow Brass bell.
Available with Yellow Brass or Nickel end bows, Schilke handslides are .547" large bore slides with chrome-plated inner tubes, yellow brass outer tubes, and nickel oversleeves. All Schilke handslides are assembled to strict tolerances from the highest quality parts, aligned multiple times throughout the build and finish process, then hand-finished to assure consistent action. The quality control of our parts allows us to build slides that are free of stress and torsion, a major problem with many trombone slides.
Three interchangeable brass leadpipes are also included:
1 ” Most compact sound, very clear articulation, most resistance
2 ” Standard leadpipe, more open sound than #1, more clear articulation than #3
3 ” Most open sound, somewhat more covered articulation, least resistance
There are four main tuning slide options available on Schilke trombones: Yellow Round, Rose Round, Yellow Square, and Rose Square. Square-shaped tuning slides will tend to play more compact and focused, while round tuning slides will play more freely and yield a somewhat wider sound. The choice of Yellow or Rose material will affect playing characteristics as well.

I am borrowing this trombone from a friend to use in college jazz band. I've been playing on it for about a month now, and I'm in love. The sound is so beautiful in both the upper and lower range. The only issue I'm having is that the trigger seems to be a little slow. I'm sure that its because it is a brand new horn, and because it just needs oiled. The appearance is definitely an eye catcher. I will walk by people while holding this trombone and everyone stops and comments on how beautiful it is. I plan on making this horn a future purchase!
I just receieved my ST-20 Hagmann Valve Trigger trombone today. Is beautiful, and it plays as well as it looks. The trigger throw is smoooth and short, the resistance in the trigger is perfect. The slide was perfect right out of the case. I chose the Rose Brass Bell with nickle handslides with Yellow Round tuning. All registers speak well. I am very pleased with this professional model tromone. Schilke has knocked it out ofthe park with this trombone!
