Schilke Standard Series French Horn Mouthpiece in SilverThe quality of the Schilke Standard Series French Horn Mouthpiece is unmistakable. From the moment you see a Schilke mouthpiece, to the moment you hear your first note, you'll know you've purchased a superior product!

This is a very shallow mouthpiece that makes high notes more secure. The somewhat wide inner diameter allows for resonance, especially for those with somewhat full lips.
For 30 years I used only Holton Farkas MDC mouthpieces, an excellent, versatile design. But I find the Schilke #30 to be noticeably freer in the lower and mid-lower registers, while also being surprisingly responsive above the staff. I also find it a bit easier to shift between embouchure sets with this mouthpiece, probably due both to its rim's shape and its shape. E.g., I can quickly switch from my middle set to einsetzen (very low set) with a smaller chance of my lower lip slipping off than with, say, a Lawson #700 rim (which my teacher swears by). Your mileage may vary of course, but overall this is the best $30 I've spent on horn gear in a long time!
I just started changed from trumpet to french horn a few months ago and i heard schilke were pretty good. i bought the mouhtpiece and was pretty happy that the rim was comfortable and not bony as usual and it wasnt that hard to produce a nice buzz
