Comments about Schilke Standard Series Trumpet Mouthpiece in Silver Group II:
Overall, I like Schilke mouthpieces. I purchased this mouthpiece to produce a brighter sound while playing some jazzier solo pieces in a pit band for a musical. It accomplished my goal for the most part. I like the bright sound of the Schilke 15a4a. I chose the size 15 because I play a 3C normally. Schilke has a nice chart to help you choose the right size. The Schilke 15a4a produces a decent tone without being overly bright or thin. The shallow cup depth and smooth feel of the rim make it comfortable to play. However, the backbore on this particular model is too tight for me. It actually reduced my upper range. Obviously, everyone's embouchure and playing habits are different. For me, this specific size isn't my favorite mouthpiece. As with any mouthpiece it is important to determine what you are trying to accomplish and try out the mouthpiece on your specific trumpet model.
