The Selmer Larry Teal mouthpiece, created by Larry Teal famous University of Michigan saxophone professor, is perfect for performing solo or in any size ensemble. The Larry Teal creates a warm dark sound which is wonderful for performing classical music with band, orchestra, or any other arrangement of instruments. After trying hundreds of mouthpieces, I found that this one creates a rich tone, allows for wide dynamic range and even helps with extended range playing.
I was introduced to the Larry Teal mouthpiece by a fellow college professor when I was doing on-call professional symphony work. I was immediately hooked by the warm, rich classic tone and ease of control. Prior to that I used a Selmer Soloist C* for classical playing and a Brilhart 3* for big band playing. I have received many compliments about my tone when using this mouthpiece in big bands. If you are a serious saxophonist, I would highly recommend this mouthpiece.
This is the best mouthpiece i have used yet, and definently wortht the money. It is some what pricey though. It gives me better tone quality, sound, and intonation than my previece Hite. You should give this one some thought.
Nice that Larry Teal received credit for the round chamber. He was a great man and incredible musician. I was fortunate to study with him in the late 1970s as a high school student. He was the real thing; not your typical head in the sand classical saxophonist. He knew about jazz, popular music, orchestral (assistant principle flute in the Detroit Symphony), and what it meant to survive in the music business before the "university gig." He was a great man, great musician, and helped create an incredible mouthpiece.
