The C* has been recommended to me by students and teachers alike. Playing on my C* with my selmer signet is an amazing combination. I can get a really nice sound from most reeds. The C* provides wonderful tone and I would never get rid of it. The C* is definitely a worthwhile investment.
I play alto sax and I am already outgrowing this mouthpiece. It is only slightly dark and bright. The main problem for me is the tip is too small. The sound is not dark enough for me however it is a great mouthpiece. If you are a player looking to upgrade from a 4c it is the perfect mouthpiece. Why? Because it is easy to play, will sound great in a band or solo setting. However don't use it for marching band. The mouthpiece will suffer. I haven't and never will. However if you are a person with a vandoren mouthpiece don't change. Its not as dark as vandoren mouthpieces.
Well, what can I say? This mouthpiece is great. It's more in-tune and easier to play than my previous mouthpiece. When I got this mouthpiece, I could feel and hear the difference.
This is the mouthpiece I started playing on and it worked great for the first 6 years of my career. I started on a C* which is for the most part the basic beginner/intermediate mouthpiece of this style. I played on it for everything from jazz to classical music. Later on as my style improved I found it limiting a bit and ended up switching to a higher end mouthpiece with more versatility and better play. This mouthpiece produces a good tone without the necessary control that it takes a while to acquire. I would highly recommend this mouthpiece for any beginner, but perhaps not for anyone who has more experience.
Before this I played a Premier on the alto. Then I got a hold of a C* and man did my tone CHANGE! It?s so awesome, there?s just about nothing I can't not do with it. It?s an amazing mouth piece. Good for anything. Even my director uses a C*, there a definite must have for any sax player. Have one in your case at all times.
