Selmer Paris S80 Tenor Saxophone MouthpieceThe Selmer S80 tenor saxophone mouthpiece is a popular design, and one of the biggest sellers in the marketplace. It is constructed from hard rod rubber, which lends it outstanding stability, accuracy and consistent facings. Whereas most mouthpieces have an arched cross-section in the chamber, the S80 is square. Students stepping up from a stock mouthpiece will experience a dramatic improvement in register changes and tonguing immediately in terms of tone and response.Model C: Tip: Close (1.70) / Facing: Med (24.00)Model C*: Tip: Medium Close (1.80) / Facing: Medium (24.00)Model C**: Tip: Medium (1.90) / Facing: Medium (24.00)Model D: Tip: Medium (2.00) / Facing: Medium (24.00)Model E: Tip: Medium Open (2.10) / Facing: Medium (24.00)Model F: Tip: Medium Open (2.30) / Facing: Medium (24.00)Model G: Tip: Open (2.50) / Facing: Medium (24.00)

This is a great mouthpiece and is recommended by most band directors.
I have heard so much good about this mouthpiece, and this is the one my Band Teacher told me to buy when it came to having to buy a new one. When I got it in the mail and tried it out, it was very hard to get good tonal qualities, it had a limited range, and it took a lot more air to even make sounds. I was very disapointed. It barely sufficed for Pep Band, but that's not where I needed it most. So I ended up having to return it.
i had opened this mouthpiece in the mail immediately and played. I found it to have immediate response and a much clearer sound than a stock mouthpiece. i noticed its precision on high notes to be very clear and clean. low notes are very responsive and warm. vibrato is extensive and the mouthpiece overall has a very large range for pitches. sounds best with Vandoren reeds. great mouthpiece overall. satisfied beyond my expectancy. very much recommended.
I've been playing with an S80 C* for more than twenty years now. I've owned lots of horns in my life and used a host of mouthpieces, but the Paris S80 is still my all time favorite. Though I have used it more for classical music and "show tunes", I think it is flexible enough to use in nearly any setting. I've played blues and jazz with an S80, especially when I was interested in a more mellow sound rather than an edgy or "bright" tone. I still play the one I bought over twenty years ago nearly every day. If you don't abuse or drop it, this mouthpiece will last for decades. I'd say it is a great mouthpiece for the beginner (very user friendly, easy to get tone) and never loses its usefulness even after many years.
I used a Yamaha 4c mouthpiece for 4 years of high school band (with the exception of 1 season of marching band where I used my metal mouthpiece) and it worked really well. But my senior year, I started to feel restricted on it. So I decided to buy a good mouthpiece, this one.
When I first switched to it I expected immediate improvement, I did not get that. Infact, my tone was worse. But as I kept playing it, I got used to it.
My tone sharply improved and I realized that this mouthpiece is absolutely amazing. I've played on (but not owned) several mouthpieces and this one is by far the best. The control you get with this is spectacular. I will be using this thing for years to come.
