I must say that after many years, the problem of keeping reeds ôaliveö has been solved! Being very picky with my reeds, I was constantly searching for a reed case that would prevent my reeds from warping and becoming moldy, while still allowing them to dry properly, and keep their ôsubstanceö. I have tried the Wiseman, the Rico, the Vandoren, the Protec, and even some custom made reed cases. Nothing has given me better results than the Selmer Case. I purchased the 10 reed case (If you are really pressed for space, it can hold more like 12). I have been known to go through reeds during a rehearsal quite constantly, and the Selmer case allows me to keep all my favorite reeds right at my fingertips. The beveled glass automatically holds reeds in place while drawing moisture to the sides. This moisture is then absorbed by the velvet on the upper side of the case. The glass also prevents warping very well. After nearly a year of owning this case, I have yet to find a moldy reed. The velvet has not lost its press either. Not only is it functional, but being less than half an inch thick, it easily fits into the pocket of any case I care to carry it in. The latches are quite strong, and have held up against a number of falls. I feel quite safe without the ever present rubber band. My only complaint is that the glass becomes dirty very quickly from moisture and such, but itÆs nothing a quick wipe with a damp cloth won't fix! ItÆs small, functional, musically safe, and pleasing to the eye as well. ItÆs worth every penny!

This case did what it was designed to do, until I needed to clean the case. It is about impossible to clean the interior fabric, because it acts like a sponge. Afterwords, I put a new set of reeds in it, and after a day, the reeds were covered in that nasty black mold. Also, the design of the case is horrible. Your reeds like to rearrange themselves in the case, and all your reeds like to fall out when you open the case. This makes it hard when you need to do a gig really fast, and suddenly your reeds are on the floor.

Worth the money!

I am a huge fan of this reed case. I haven't had a single warped reed since I purchased this case. It allows the reeds to dry completely flat without getting moldy! The latches on mine could be stronger but they do the job. It says it could hold 10 reeds, I normally have 13-14 reeds in it at one time, so more bang for your buck really! The leather on the outside is very soft and does get a little beat up over time but just be gentle with it and it will last!

Very Practical, I would recommend

The general problems with the majority of reed cases are fairly well know. Moldy Reeds, expensive humidity packets, breaking reeds, still warping reeds, etc. This Selmer reed case effectively keeps reeds from warping (when wet, the water from the reeds sticks to the glass evenly, which allows the reed to dry pushed up against the glass, thus no warping) doesn't let the reeds collect mold, and for the most part, the reeds are secure. When dry, the reeds in the case may fall out, but as long as the reeds are somewhat moist, they stick firmly to the glass. I was somewhat worried about the cheap looking metal latches to secure the case. However, after about 2 months of heavy use, they have not given in. What has given in, however, are the physical properties. The metal has begun to dull, and more importantly the leather from the case is peeling around the edges. Although this does not take from the practicality of the case, it does make it look significantly uglier. Note that although I throw this case inside bags and on music stands just about every day, I have only owned this for a few months and it has already begun to wore. Despite this, I really like this case, and I think I'm going to stick with it for the time being. I currently have 6 Bass Clarinet and 4 Clarinet reeds inside - and space for couple more.

Best Accessory Ever!

The Selmer Reed Case is probably the best accessory I have ever purchased for my clarinet. I have always just used either the paper or plastic individual storage containers that came with the reeds. I have always had trouble with the reeds warping or not being dried out enough to play again after a few hours. I bought the Selmer case which holds five reeds. After playing in the church orchestra in the morning service, I now put my reed in the new case. Five hours later the reed is dry and in perfect condition to play for choir practice and evening worship service. I can't believe I hadn't purchased this case before. I use to throw my reeds away after morning service because they were not fit to play in the evening. This case is truly a money saver.

Selmer reed case

the latch came off somewhere-- so, now use rubber band to keep it closed. Kind of cheap, doesn't work any magic, just a case to hold reeds. Price here is good, as usual, compared to other sites or stores(which never carry them).

A great case

I got the 10 clarinet reed model. It comfortably holds 12 reeds actually. It's pretty thick of course, so it won't fit in a normal-sized clarinet case. It's served me very well.
