I bought this sax about 3 weeks ago. When I went to try it out I fell in love with it. I tried out a Eastman & this Black nickle selmer. I was Having trouble deciding which one was better my mom blind folded me so I couldn't see which one I was playing. I chose the Selmer because it has a relaxed felling, perfect intonation, and a warm sound. This is a perfect upgrade from my conn. I played on a selmer s80 c* with a Vandoren2 1/2 with a dark rovner lig. Don't buy a sax only by the brand and looks, but for the sound and the kind of music you like.
UI got this horn as a replacement for my old (model unknown) Bundy, and I noticed immediate changes in my sound especially in the lower register. Hitting low Bb is now a breeze! The keys have the feel of a Selmer Paris, and are easy to reach and use. In addition, my Copper and Brass finish looks great! Selmer definately lived up to their great reputation with this sax.
This sax is a really great buy for anyone wanting to get a step-up model sax. I upgraded from a Yamaha YAS23 and imediately noticed the difference in sound. It definetly helps the player develop a stronger tone and pitch. It projects nicely and can really be heard. On the plus side, my black lacquer finish gives it a nice dark jazzy sound. The keys are close together for more accurate fingering. All in all it is an awsome sax to play on.
I did a lot of shopping and testing before choosing the Selmer La Voix II for my next alto. I played many more expensive horns, including high end Yamahas, Cannonballs, and Selmers. This horn offers a great, full tone and accurate intonation. I get a clear 440 A easily and find consistent pitch from the low end up to the altissimo range without undue strain. With a Selmer S80 C* mouthpiece, a Rovner MkIII/C-1RL ligature, and a #3 Fibracell reed, I get just the right amount of "brightness" and warmth of tone I enjoy. This instrument is a great buy and as far as I'm concerned is every bit as good as horns that sell for much more. My only complaint is a good horn deserves a good case and this one is just too soft for any travel or hard use.
