When I first received this instrument, I thought I was getting a good deal. It was a built-in pick-up in an acoustic violin! I tightened the bow, rosined it, tuned and played. Something wasn't right. The sound was a bit off. I look inside to find a bass bar, but no sound post. This is unacceptable. Without it, the instrument sounds hollow and weak. The violin just wasn't complete. After a trip to the repair shop, it was found that the bridge was too tall, too. Make sure that the sound post is in there if you decide to buy this instrument. The SC3EL does have some value, though. I've learned to record with a 1/4" to 3.5 mm adapter plugged into a 3.5 mm sound cable. I can use Audacity to record without any background noise. It's given me some use.
I got this violin about a year ago to play at my school's orchestra. Got the Honey Blond. I love how bright it is- different from evyone else's boring wood color. My teacher kept commenting on how he loves the sound of the violin! He really likes taking it and playing it, haha! I still have yet to plug it up to an amp though. The only problem I had was that one of the fine tuners were broken, but my teacher fixed that in a jiffy.
