Similar to a Module on an Electronic Drum Set, Sound Modules (also called Tone Generators) act as the “guts” of a Digital Piano or Synthesizer. Sound modules are a valued-added, space-saving tool that save you money while giving you plenty of sounds and voices to get creative with. In today’s world, keyboard players and producers are always looking for more flexibility and updated technology without having to commit the physical space to another keyboard. Especially if the player already owns a keyboard controller that has an excellent feel, using multiple sound modules will allow them to expand their setup in a more cost effective way. Home recording enthusiasts will also appreciate the space-saving nature of the sound module. By combing a robust sounding module with a small keyboard controller, they can input and record each part at a time taking advantage of the modern and powerful sounds within the module in a controlled space. Each manufacturer and tone module may have a slightly different focus or mission. Some specialize in only piano and keyboard sounds while others will look to replicate a vintage Hammond Organ sound or vintage keyboard sound. The most common types of these modules are Table-Top models – known for the portability and content-rich features.
