I've always loved the sound of these telecasters especially the bridge pickup. I initially wanted to buy one used from a friend for a super cheap price to modify it and what not. That didn't work out so I just ended up buying a blemished one here on WWBW.Well I haven't played this guitar stock in a long while (I think I only played it for 5 minutes then got to work on it immediately.) The neck pickup is round, and warm I keep the tone knob all the way down. And the bridge is biting and sounds great with gain. The necks are made of the extremely pale maple (which I like.)These guitar's necks tend to show flaws in the grain but it's no biggy. The neck plays extremely well and is comfortable; the action comes low right out of the box. It stays in tune so but that can be fixed by replacing the tuning keys. I love the finish it's kind of orange in nature very cool. The hardware is sub par (compared to the squier affintiy strat) The switch is extremely flimsy and the output jack is mounted with a black piece of plastic. This is why I replaced everything: both pots, the pickups, the switch (and knob) the output jack and the mounting plate, the pickguard and the nut. After the modifications it's incredible. Get this guitar now.
This guitar is beautiful! Great finish, good solid build. The sounds you can make with this guitar are great. I love it. Great deal for the price. Buy one and you will have a future collectors guitar.
This guitar is THE guitar for Emo and Indie rock. I've been an active musician for over 8 years, an active guitarist for perhaps 4 years, and this is the tone I need to complete my solo compositions properly. When using the neck pickup alone, the tone sounds a lot like that of Dave Bazan from Pedro the Lion. (in case you're looking for a nice tonal reference) This guitar really did sound just as nice as its Fender counterparts ...perhaps even nicer!
I got this guitar a guitar center last summer and I was worried because I doubted this guitar would be good because it is made by Squier but it changed my mind! I got laughed at for owning it but I like it a lot it's got a good sound for me and It feels great in my hands and I enjoy playing the Pink Floyd songs on it.
First off, I would like to say that WWBW is probably the best musical instrument store in the world. I bought a used, slightly damaged Squire Affinity Tele in the Outlet department and they sent me a brand new one (since somebody bought the same used one just before me). They are a class act!! Anyway, I never owned a Tele and I wanted to complete my collection. I considered making one from a kit, but the Affinity was a good value (and it was already put together too). The Affinity ? out of the box, looks good, like a Fender. The butterscotch finish is not as thick as a Fender would be, but that's to be expected. The selector knob is totally cheesy ? a spare toy part at a Chinese toy factory maybe? (The guitar is made in China) The body is a nice chunk of Alder and the neck is unfinished maple (my favorite). Die cast tuners are a welcome addition. After I changed the strings (they were corroded and rough), and did a set-up (the neck was flat and fret-buzzed everywhere). I filed the fret edges (the frets had metal burrs on the edges and were scratchy when you moved your hand up and down the neck) and then raised the pickups closer to the strings. I plugged into a tube amp and then a modeling amp. The guitar sounds great ? even unplugged. String bending is pretty comfortable and it doesn?t go out of tune very easily. Surprisingly good sustain even without the strings going through the body. I may tinker around and change the pickups, or put in a classic 3 saddle bridge someday, but I'm happy with this guitar and can?t stop playing it right now. I showed it to my friends and they wanted to buy it off me ? at the original low price though. If you are willing to put some work into this, or pay for the work, this is a very nice and economical Tele.
