After 20 plus years of playing guitar, I have to admit this one sounds beautiful. All the Squire guitars are a step above the rest. I'Il always recommend Squire Strats - whether a beginner or for playing around the garage - this guitar is simply the best.
I'm a beginner so I went searching my local music store for an affordable, decent guitar so I tried all different guitars and when I found this guitar I nearly cried (not really) but it I was so beautiful so I started playing it and it had the best sound ever. It feels so strong that I could run it over with a monster truck and not even put a scratch on it (don't try that) I love this guitar:)
Like everyone else says... this is a fine guitar for the money. Needed a little set up upon arrival: action a bit high, tremelo spring anchor needed some tightening, intonation slightly off, a couple of frets weren't hammered in at quite the right angle. But, hey! I'm nit picking. For this price it looks and sounds like a Strat. Heck, for all intents and purposes it IS a Strat (albeit, comparable to a MIM Strat). If you're a beginner, take it to your local luthier and spend a few bucks for a set up. You'll really appreciate it. If you can do it yourself, all the better! NOTE: I got the Antique Burst. Mine's really more of a blood-red burst (emphasizing *red*) than the yellow/orange burst in the pic and what you might expect from an *antique* burst. Still spectacular looking. The Tort Pickguard is really cool, too!
I bought the antique burst with the maple fretboard model over a year ago. Although the original setup needed work ( intonation and neck required some minor adjusting) I have found that the quality of workmanship has been great. This is a Strat make no mistake about it. The pickups are much better than the Affinity model. My son has that model. The neck is fast and the tone and sustain puts it up there with the Mexican and lower end US models. Some minor tweaking on pickup height may be required for personal preference. Plenty of reputable sites to help with these minor issues including the fender site itself. Overall, I would say that once you compare the features with higher end models and do the research this is a deal you won't want to overlook. The bell tones produced by the bridge pickup and warm neck vibe is great. 5 way switch creates alot of different options. I consider this to be a great intermediate level option.
Fantastic value for a quality product like this! I did have to add 3 additional Tremolo springs...to stabilize tuning and have the bridge pickup wired for tone control. Minor work for additional happiness.
