I was seriously considering buying a Gibson J180EC priced at $1,200.00, when I decided to check out the Takamine EG523SC. I'm Glad I did! The Takamine is very similar in size, stying, and playability but at less than half the price of the Gibson. It also has features such as a built in tuner, that the Gibson does not have. The mother of pearl and abalone inlays adds a touch of class that is very appealing to the eye. When this guitar is sitting on a stand, it just lights up the room. It's absolutely drop dead gorgeous. After taking it out of the box, all I had to do was tune it. The setup was just the way I like it. The action was nice and low, the intonation was right on the money. Every note was clear on every string on every fret. No fret buzz whatsoever. I'm a guitar tech and do all my own setup work, but with this one, all I had to do was tune it and play it. Yes, it's true, this guitar is slightly smaller than a full size jumbo. To give you an idea as to it's size, it's the same size as a Gretsch 6120, or an Epiphone Emperor or Sheraton. Keep in mind the Takamine is a flat top and the ones I mentioned are arch tops. The body dimensions are still the same. The lower bout on the Takamine measures 16 3/4 inches wide. The lower bout on a jumbo measures 17 1/8 inches wide. The overall body length of the Takamine is 20 1/2inches from the neck joint to the strap button. The jumbo is 21 inches. That's hardly a difference to complain about. This Takamine can hold it's own against any jumbo on the market today. It's a pleasure to own and play. The folks at WWBW are awesome to deal with. This guitar came with a free Takamine TKL hardshell case, at the same price other dealers were charging for the same guitar without a case. What's not to like?
Bought one in 2003, tone is already starting to deepen and mature. Can't wait to find out how it sounds 10 years from now. Fantastic range and depth, one of the best A/Es I've played unplugged. Plugged in it can't be beat for this price. Beautiful woodgrain, beautiful finish.
I have this guitar and the eg334sbc. Both great guitars, but I would have to say that this one sounds just as good as the 334, maybe not as powerful, but it does sound great. It is also a little cheaper, and is probably one of the most amazing looking guitars for the price. It is hard to find a guitar in this price range that has any extra design or flashiness. This was an excellent buy for me. I can not put this guitar down, except for when I write a review on it. But other than that, never.
Received the Takamine eg523sc a day earlier than promised and am blown away. Guitar looks good, and sounds even better. This guitar came with nearly perfect action out of the box, no buzzing that others have said they experienced. This guitar has a brighter, fuller sound than my Guild. Electronics are intuitive and sound sweet through an amp or board. I just wonder when acoustic manufacturers will start shipping guitars with a strap button on the front of the body. This has not quite replaced my Les Paul Studio as #1 in my heart, but it is #2 out of the seven guitars I own.
Well I have to say, I have owned my Takamine for about five months now, and really love it. went to the music store today where I purchased it, and wanted to play some Taylor guitars to see what all the fuss was about. the Takamine blows them away, and I am not just saying that. They cost double what I paid for this guitar, and I couldn't get any real satisfaction out of them. I played other brands also, and again, the same result. Couldn't wait to get home and play my guitar, the winner in the whole lot! Don't hesitate to buy this, for the money it cannot be beat.
