The action on the EG 523SC is low without any buzzing. The jumbo size, solid spruce top, and flamed maple sides and back bring out a rich, loud resonant sound equal to much high priced guitars. Since I bought my 523SC in August 2004, I have played other brands and models when I visit music stores, and have not found another guitar that sounds or plays better. It is a beautiful guitar, too, with all of the mother of pearl inlay and fancy pick guard. Oh, yeah, the built in tuner is right on key and the pickup is interchangeable.
I recently purchased this Takamine after several different acoustics and must say I'm in love with this jumbo machine. The tone is definitely loud and warm. The action is set higher but I like higher action for a deeper sound. Whenever I get a acoustic lowered in action for better playability I feel I lose the depth of the big sound I am going for. Setups for preference are the players choice if the guitar is intonated and neck is setup accordingly. I definitely recommend this guitar for the beginner to the progressional. For the price, including the beautiful hardshell case, u really can't go wrong. Anything else in the price is going to be a cheaper end Martin or Taylor. This guitar definitely replicates the similar sounding Gibson model in ways and definitely great for live and studio use for its clarity and warmth.
Very full sound, amazing quality in this price range. It needed to be set up by a local guitar shop; the fret buzz was horrible out of the box. Cost me $50, but now it sounds INCREDIBLE!
I have many guitars including and I usually do not even look at acoustics not made by Taylor, Gibson or Martin. I don't know why, but this guitar caught my eye and I did a bit of research and was impressed enough to take a chance and buy one sight unseen from an internet dealer. I bought the blue version of this guitar because it was a great price. The finish is beautiful...the abalone inlays are beautiful?but it was the sound which really blew me away. This baby sounded great, right out of the box very nice sustain and wonderful tone?plugged in it performs just as well. The action is low and it feels very nice in one?s hands. I intend to take it in to have it set up next week by a luthier whose work I swear by (like I do with all my guitars) and I expect it to be even better then. For the price?best guitar deal I have ever found.
I saw this guitar in my local music store for a lot more money + additional $ for the case. The hard shell case that comes with it is exactly what my music store was selling and is designed to fit it exactly. It is plushy lined and very heavy duty. The guitar sounds really nice and is strikingly beautiful. I am enjoying my purchase. I did not find a cheaper price anywhere on the net or at local music shops.
