Detailed Product Description

The Taylor 600 series. A signature quality of Big Leaf maple — besides its crisp, bright tone — is its ability to cut through on stage. As a result, you’ll find many 600 Series® guitars in live performance situations, easily able to hold their own with the rest of the band. The 600 Series is a visual standout, too: Its jaw-dropping maple figure is available in a selection of natural, color and sunburst finishes. Top: Sitka Spruce. Back/Sides: Big Leaf Maple. Cutaway & Expression System Pickup Standard.

Jumbo Body
The Jumbo delivers the extra-deep resonance and volume that come with a larger sound chamber together with its own signature subtleties. Revoicing has sharpened its tonal difference from the Dreadnought. With a huge presence, the Jumbo is perfectly suited for aggressive strumming.

Taylor Expression System™
Designed to faithfully reproduce your guitar's native tone, the Expression System utilizes patented Dynamic Sensors to capture top and string vibration like never before. Created in partnership with renowned audio pioneer, Mr. Rupert Neve, the Taylor ES is seamlessly integrated into the design of the guitar from the ground up. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally clean amplified sound.

Gloss Finish
The finish used to create this guitar’s lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultra violet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes. Available finish options in this series include natural, amber, red, black, blue, cherry black sunburst, cherry sunburst, honey sunburst, and tobacco sunburst.

(I keep hitting the return key, but wasn't finished...sorry!!) Sound: see earlier partially completed review. Add: the expression system is a little bit noisy, compared to the Fishman pick up system on my 2002 Taylor 414 ce, but, the sound is amazing; very true to a miked guitar. Taylor's customer service is outstanding. I called them twice; once with a question and once with a problem...you get right through on the phone to a tech and the guys are polite, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The ES on my guitar started sounding funny (buzzing sounds, like a Kazoo!) a few weeks after I bought this, so I called Taylor... Turns out a sensor in the ES was bad, so they referred me to Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI for service. Taylor offers a lifetime warranty, including the electronics. They fixed the ES system, upgraded the electronics to the most current version, all for no cost. This alone is worth the admission price for the guitar. The neck on a 615 has a gloss finish, which takes some getting used to when compared to the satin finish on some other models. If you're playing this guitar through an amplifier, you'll want a good amp with lots power and some "balls" to get the best sound. The Roland AC60 sounds nice, but doesn't have enough bottom end on its own. The bigger Fishman amps, such as the Loud Performer are better, but I found the best sound to be through a California Blonde amp. Turns out that Taylor uses the California Blonde's as reference amps at their factory, if that tells you anything. So, if you're in the market for a jumbo guitar, this is one worth trying out. A big Gibson jumbo, like the one Sheryl Crow plays, is the only thing that is in the same league. The Gibson has a fatter (thicker) neck, if you like some bigger lumber to grip. All in all, very pleased with this Taylor and Taylor's service/support.
