The Doctor's Products The "Legend" Clarinet SwabThe Doctor's Products The "Legend" Clarinet Swab Design elements and materials in woodwind swabs have improved little in the last hundred years and also their efficiency at removing moisture from the bores of woodwind instruments. This has all changed with aeronautical design software which can predict the best shape profile for a swab to give the most contact (ballooning principle) with the bore surface. The missing element, until now, has been a way to control the folding and compression characteristics of the swab as it enters the bore to avoid improper folding giving only "edge effect" contact with the bore. A chance meeting with a Japanese Shibori expert (Shibori is the revered ancient Asian art of folding fabric to form intricate patterns) resulted in a revolutionary solution. The Shibori expert showed me that addition of a carefully defined notch in the leading edge of the swab would cause it to assume the desired shape and complete contact of the silk with the surface of the bore. This Shibori notch (Pat. Applied for) produces superior contact of the "aerodynamic balloon form" custom silk used in the swab and allows complete moisture absorption with a single slow pass through the bore. The new Black "Legend" Swab takes swab technology into a new realm of effectiveness and ease of use with exclusive heavy quality charmeuse silk, anti-clog design, correctly sized and designed weight, and long braided nylon ribbon double stitched into the swab body. Look no further for the best swab on the market.

I own more than a dozen of these swabs. I keep one in the case of each clarinet I own. Many of my clarinets are vintage horns that are irreplaceable models no longer made. These swabs work better than anything I have seen from a major manufacturer (and with an investment in this many vintage clarinets I have tried most of them). Not only is silk smooth and gentle on the bore of your clarinet (and mouthpieces if you use them that way, as I will), but the silk is highly absorbent and the unique shape to these swabs means they do not get stuck in the clarinet or mouthpiece, even with clarinets like 1950s Selmers with large internal protrusions of the register tubes. Quite simply the best.
It is about time that the woodwind world discover The Doc (Omar Henderson) and his products. This swab and Dr Syntec cork treatment belong in every case. Also...and as a clarinet barrel craftsman... I can attest to this...his bore oil is tops.
I have tried any number of different swabs for Bb clarinets, and the Legend is the best one there is. It never jams in the upper joint against the register tube, asis common with standard cotton swabs, and is extremely well-made. I recommend it highly. Like all Doctor's Products I have tried, it is an excellent iteration of a superior idea, and works wonderfully!
This is a great, easy-to-use, and functional swab...no other substitute for quality silk and design.
I have used many swabs in my years of playing. I first know that I like silk because it does not leave lint behind, second that I hate swabs that get stuck in the instrument, third that I hate swabbing over and over to remove all the moisture. The Black Legend swab has a cool design that removes all the moisture with just one swabbing. It has never gotten stuck in thousands of swabbing. It has the finest quality silk that I have ever seen in a swab and is very smooth, thick, and also absorbent. Playing in an orchestra I cannot sometimes remove the mouthpiece and must swab quickly and the cord on the Black Legend is plenty long enough to go through the mouthpiece all the way to the bell with plenty of cord and weight to pull through the entire clarinet. The quality of workmanship is superb and the swab works perfectly every time. I am convinced after seeing literally hundreds of different swab types that the Black Legend is the best on the market - at any price!
