More Information
How does it work. This especially formulated, all natural blend of expensive non-toxic exotic oils, antioxidants, and stabilizers, controls the dimensional stability and water balance of fine wood instruments. It really, thoroughly soaks into the wood. Water is both the enemy and the friend of fine wood musical instruments and controlling the water sorption and desorption of (amount entering and leaving) the wood adds dimensional stability, retards the tendency to crack or split, prevents water logging, and improves the overall tone of the instrument. Your fine wood instrument should last many years with proper care. Especially good for dry environments - necessary for damp climates. Why is it better? Most bore oils on the market are cheap mineral oils! Extensive research has shown that processed oils and waxes (most bore oils) actually clog the pores and fine structure of the wood fibers and hinder the transfer of moisture to the wood structure, while certain natural oils and antioxidants nourish and preserve the wood and the fine tonal qualities of wood instruments over the years. A proper water balance in necessary for the resonant qualities of wood instruments but too much or too little (and even the rapid flux ) can cause changes in resonance and the tendency to warp, split or crack the wood. Bore Doctor(TM) will not dull the tonal qualities of your instrument! Friendly to pads too. Inexpensive insurance for your wood prone to cracking or splitting. |

This is the best oil I've ever used. It restored my instrument to a like-new shine, as if it was fresh from the factory. The oil really, really soaks into the wood very quickly. You can see it working. And, unlike those petroleum-based oils, you don't have to oil it very frequently. I can go for about 3-4 months, if not longer, without oil and the bore is still beautiful. Someone has finally invented the perfect bore oil.

Wood is an organic material. Neglect can mean disaster. As a make of custom clarinet tuning barrels, I enclose "instructions for care" with each order, and this brand of bore oil is specifically recommended. A little does a lot.

I am a professional player, teacher, and collector of vintage woodwind instruments. Many vintage instruments are stored in attics or other unsuitable places and have dried out significantly. In this condition many do not play well and need significant help. I use Bore Doctor and apply it as indicated but use many applications over many days. I also clean the wood with another Doctor's Product - Doctor's wood cleaner to remove the accumulated grime and grit from the wood pores prior to oiling. Most of the instruments show improvement after thorough oiling (new pads, springs and adjustment help too!) both in the aesthetic appearance of the wood (graining decreases), but also the tonal qualities of the instrument improve. I use Bore Doctor on all of my clarinets - both newer and older - on a regular basis (usually quarterly) to protect the wood with the hope that I won't get cracking. So far - great success. Bore Doctor really soaks into the wood unlike many other bore oils on the market and is an all natural organic product which I like.
