About Cork
Cork is a wood product and as such needs special treatment. Your cork will last longer, remain supple and will not peel, chip or disintegrate if treated properly. Traditional "cork grease" is a petroleum based product that clogs the pores, fine structure and over time reduces the corks ability to absorb moisture, compress and rebound, ultimately leads to disintegration of the cork itself and leads to loosening the glue holding the cork on the tenon. The Idea behind the product
The idea for the product came during a visit to Italy and Emperor Hadrian's Villa outside Rome. Clay jars containing olive oil were found in perfect condition - including their contents - after 1500 years. The jars were sealed with native corks which appeared to be in wonderful condition, covered with bees wax and pine resin. How does it work?
We all know that cork needs to maintain a certain moisture content to remain soft and supple from the wine industry where bottles are stored upright and the cork becomes brittle and cracks when you insert a corkscrew. In order to make the product fulfill it's job of smoothly lubricating the cork we were fortunate to get some great advice from an old Asian herbalist that suggested we use a special extract of the Slippery Elm Tree Bark. It worked so well that we call this additional ingredient - Nature's Teflon(TM). With Nature's Teflon(TM) the product is an ideal cork treatment which is slippery but not greasy, sticky, or smelly and is kind to cork.

Pros

  • Strap Doesn't Break
  • Strong No-mar Hook

Cons

  • A Little Stiff To Adjust

Best Uses

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

I've been using these since the 1960s. The hook is strong and plastic so it doesn't mar your sax, it holds well, and doesn't break.

However, they are a bit shorter than they used to be, so for me the tenor is almost at the end of the pulley and it's a little more difficult to adjust than they were in the past.

They are still good straps though.

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

One of the good products. There are others in this category that are also nice. This one doesn't have any added scent like some of the others which I personally prefer. One tube lasts me quite a while. I live in the desert SW and some of the other standard cork greases melt too easily in the heat and can mess up your case.

    Best Cork Grease

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

Isn't actually greasy, which is what makes it so wonderful. It reduces friction with minimal residue (usually none at all) on the cork.

    Only cork grease I'll use

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

This grease is simply the best on the market. It will keep your tennons assembling smoothly for a long time. One thing nobody else seems to have mentioned is that the tube is transparent and you can tell when you are about to run out. Every instrument I've fixed/cleaned for my school has received this grease (I've even smoothened up the low Eb key on a bass clarinet by greasing the cork on the key). I've used this for over a year now and I still have most of the same corks in the same condition as last year (over 30 cork joints). If you're really serious about preserving your instrument than this is a best buy.

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

I have used this product for several years on all of my clarinets and I would never use anything else. It is absolutely the best cork treatment out there and since it contains beeswax rather than petroleum based ingredients, it does not feel slimy and greasy like conventional cork grease. I recommend this to everyone!

Great Cork Grease - the best

    By

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

This cork grease is the best thing on the market for corks. Typically cork grease will break down the glue under the cork thus making the cork strip - not this stuff. The Doctor designed it to not break down the glue and that makes a ton of difference to how long your cork will last. Good stuff!!

I have used this wonderful material for several years now on a daily basis making mouthpieces. I believe it is the cleanest and easiest cork grease available. Congrats to Doctor Products for all its wonderful additions to the clarinet accessories market.

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

The Doctor's Slick Cork Treatment is wonderful stuff. We've used it on all of our clarinets as well as the threaded tenons on a very nice, wood flute. A little goes a long way and it does indeed work better for us than conventional cork grease. We definitely recommend this product.

    The best

Comments about The Doctor's Products Doctor Slick Cork Treatment:

This cork grase is the best. It is not sticky or gummy, the best thing about it is that you don't need a lot of it so the tube lasts longer that the traditional. It keeps my corks nice and smooth and I don't even have to use it every day like the other kind. It doest clump up in the tenons when I push the joints together. It is great stuff. It is all I use now.
