It has great balance, just the right weight, very good feel, and was easy to control. I bought mine locally, for more money than listed here. I'm sure I'll buy another one here, next time I order something. Great outdoor bow. I'd recommend to ANYONE, from the first time student to pro that needs an inexpensive backup.
I play in every imaginable environment, from scummy bars to outdoor lawn chair gigs, and I need a bow that won't change with the weather. I gave up on pernambuco a long time ago, and switched to fiber bows because wood just can't handle the extremes in humidity. I have a very expensive Coda bow which I love, but I can't risk losing or breaking it at a gig. I bought this String Center bow for low life gigs just because it's cheap, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the weight and balance of this bow. The hair is okay, but not the greatest - with a fair amount of rosin, it grabs pretty well. I recently bought a second one just to have as a spare.
I was playing a Brazil wood bow that was heavier, and (to be honest with you) wasn't really what I would consider balanced. Because of the lack of balance, the bow had a tendency to drift (either on other strings, creating a weird double stop, or too far away from the area that's to be played (too close, or past the bridge, or on the neck). This bow has incredible balance, and is extremely light (even now it feels like I'm picking up a feather). This bow would be good at a premium price, but at this price, it's incredible.
My daughter is 6 years old, and even she can feel the difference. This bow is easy to control, so it sounds better. Her violin teacher also had good comments on the bow hair as well.
Received the bow today, the shaft is warped and several hairs have broken or fallen out. I'm really dissapointed about the warping. Maybe I just got the one bad one in the bunch. What can I expect for such little money. I'll keep it for a spare, but I'll get a better one locally tomorrow.
