OVERVIEW

Brass piece with a bright sound and sharp attack.

The DATTA is based on the now legendary DURGA mouthpiece, but with an emphasis on the core tone. It has a huge, modern sound without sounding thin, and some of the most advanced mouthpiece manufacturing methods in the world. Its fat, huge, and robust sound is due to its innovative and unique window shape, the transition from flat to rounded inner side walls, and its special short True Large Chamber. While maintaining Theo Wanne quality, its lower price point makes it financially viable for most musicians. It is machined from blocks of solid brass.

The Core Sound Series mouthpieces introduce a new design concept to the Theo Wanne mouthpiece family. This series emphasizes the center, or core, of the musician' tone.

The DATTA is the brightest mouthpiece in the Core Sound Series. Its patented high baffle, unique square window, and special ˜short™ True Large Chamber gives amazing projection along with its huge, core tone.

Like Theo Wanne' other mouthpieces, the DATTA uses advanced CAD manufacturing techniques. However, a new proprietary manufacturing methodology has allowed Theo Wanne to offer this series at an even more competitive price.

With their unique core-focused tone, Theo Wanne legendary quality, and a new competitive price, the Core Sound Series mouthpieces are an incredible value in the professional mouthpiece market.

Comments about Theo Wanne DATTA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I played a Dave Guardala Studio on my tenor for many years. When I got this mouthpiece I did hours of side by side comparison and there is no question that the Datta has a similar sound but it is bigger and fatter, especially in the middle range. I tried numerous reed set-ups on the piece as well. I typically play La Voz Medium and they work nicely on this - in fact it plays many more reeds than the Guardala did - and plays them better. I ultimately have paired it with WoodStone 2.5 reeds and it has been an absolute joy to play. On the very first gig I did with it, I got a wonderful compliment about my tone from the drummer on the hit.

It should be noted that this mouthpiece is discontinued. It was the brightest in the Theo line-up and they have dropped it now and recommend the Durga instead. The Durga is indeed similar with a big "core" sound but it's definitely darker.

Also take note that WWBW had this mouthpiece listed incorrectly on their site. The price was wrong (too low) and they initially sent me the hard rubber version. They refused to stand by the lower price they advertised, and that's a disappointment.

Comments about Theo Wanne DATTA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Probably much better on modern horns. I have a #9 and tested it on a 82xxx MVI; 300xxx King Super 20; 400xxx King Silversonic. Top to bottom was fine on the MVI though a little stuffy. I got a gurgle on Low B with both Kings. Altissimo to C#4 good on all four. For the vintage horns (pre-1960) I highly recommend the Theo Wanne Shiva, Top to bottom Bb to C#4 no gurgle clear tone and very little resistance. Get that Wilton Felder sound.
