OVERVIEW

Radical tenor mouthpiece.

The DURGA is both powerful and fat-sounding. It can scream or play a soft ballad, with a uniquely designed baffle and deeply rounded inner side walls with the True Large Chamber, and a Power Ring.

The Power Ring is a ring set at the back of the chamber that radically tapers the chamber down, giving the mouthpiece the benefits of the True Large Chamber with the power found in small chamber mouthpieces. It is machined from blocks of solid brass. Many alto players who never liked metal mouthpieces before, love this mouthpiece.

The DURGA has a technically advanced design (PATENTED) and manufacturing process (PATENT PENDING). The result is a powerful mouthpiece with a huge core and breadth of sound. No longer does the saxophonist need to have a thin sound in order to get huge power and projection. The DURGA is both powerful and fat sounding simultaneously.

The secret to the DURGA lies in a uniquely designed baffle coupled with deeply rounded inner side walls and a special power version of our True Large Chamber incorporating a Power Ring. The Power Ring is a ring set at the back of the chamber that radically tapers the chamber down. This allows the mouthpiece to get all the benefits of our True Large Chamber AND the power inherent in small chamber mouthpieces.

No other mouthpiece in history has been designed like this before; it will blow you away. It can both scream and play a soft ballad and is so much fun to play. Its huge sound makes everything before it sound thin and/or stuffy in comparison.

Comments about Theo Wanne DURGA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Been playing on the Durga 7* for over a year. I love it's tone, and versatility. There's a resonance and openness to my sound now that I had never achieved until playing on this piece. They are great quality, and come with a nice mouthpiece pouch, plus some ligature adjustment tools. (Ligature is attached). They are versatile, and sound great I many genres, contemporary, traditional jazz, blues, pop, funk. The price tag is up there, but worth every penny in my honest opinion. Great piece.

Amazing mouthpiece!

Comments about Theo Wanne DURGA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I first bought a Theo Wanne Gaia Soprano mouthpiece a few years back and loved it. I then bought a TW Durga 9 tenor piece and had to round out my horns with a Durga 9 piece for alto. I used Dukoff and Guardala pieces on tenor for many years and whilst I liked the sound of both pieces, I often felt that my tone was more "piece" and not enough "me". It's completely the opposite with the Durga (in fact, with all of my Theo Wanne pieces) and I feel that I can perfectly express myself. The Durga has a great edge but also possesses a full core sound, resulting in a consistent tone in all registers that never sounds thin. You can be playing warm and lush subtones one moment and then screaming the next! Altissimo is a breeze and also more consistent than any other pieces I've played. The other thing about Theo Wanne mouthpieces is that they are effortless to play. This often means that you can go up 1 or 2 mouthpiece sizes from what you'd normally use and still feel very comfortable. The built-in Liberty ligature is brilliant, especially with the option to swap pressure plates. Some players don't believe that ligatures make much difference to sound or response but I disagree....I bought the Theo Wanne pressure plate set and have settled on 3 different metal plates on each of my horns due to the difference these make. I highly recommend trying a Theo Wanne mouthpiece - especially the Durga - if you get the chance. I think you might be surprised at the result.

Absolutely Phenomenal Mouthpiece

Comments about Theo Wanne DURGA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

The Durga is utterly magnificent ? that is the only descriptor that will do it justice. Theo Wanne?s innovative design has created a mouthpiece that truly combines the sheer power of a small chamber mouthpiece, and the size and depth of sound of a large chamber one. It plays with the biggest, most powerful sound I?ve ever gotten out of any mouthpiece, and does so without compromising the depth and fullness of the sound with its low resistance. It's incredibly responsive, providing immense control in every dynamic range, and does so in all ranges of the horn without the slightest stuffiness. It achieves a very bright sound, but does so without sounding thin or pinched ? on the contrary, it?s incredibly full and open. It achieves the magnitude of sound of an Otto Link, the minimal resistance of a Jody Jazz, and a powerful versatility that can only be described as Theo Wanne. The Durga is incredibly versatile ? it can sound as mellow as Stan Getz, or as bright and exciting as Michael Brecker. Not to mention the experience I had buying it was excellent ? the deal I got at WWBW was killer, and the customer service was even better. After having played the Durga against many other Otto Link, Jody Jazz, and Theo Wanne products, it is, hands down, the finest mouthpiece I have ever played on, and I would readily suggest it, as well as other Theo Wanne products, to my peers and students.

Comments about Theo Wanne DURGA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I was recently shipped a Durga 8 tenor mouthpiece, I put it side by side against a Jody Jazz DV7, Brillhart Level air (highly modded), Jumbo Java's t55/t75, otto link stm 6*. the durga is very quick and punchy, yet has the brilliance and fat core of a link. This was played on a Big Bell Stone Series tenor.

All hat, no cattle

Comments about Theo Wanne DURGA Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Opening the box was impressive. A nicely designed pleather pouch with a zipper, two logo'd screw drivers, and a shiny polished mouthpiece that weighed like it was made of lead. OK, nice mechanics on the integrated ligature. For a company that markets and promotes quality, my first inspection of the piece was questionable. There were machine tool scallops or chatter marks on the front rails and table of the piece. I've seen aerospace machined parts with better surface finishes. When it came to playing, I tried every reed combination in my arsenal. Synthetics and cane from a broad spectrum of manufacturers. The piece just played "stuffy" on my 80K series Selmer Mark VI. It was a "ho-hum" experience and I packed it up and sent it back. End of story.
