Comments about Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Electric Guitar:
I travel for work a lot and like to practice regularly. Traveling through airport security and on planes with a guitar usually is annoying and can be quite stressful. I got this traveler to make taking a guitar on my trips a no-brainer. This is small enough to fit into any overhead compartment and weighs practically nothing. I can practice in the airport or in my hotel room without disturbing anyone. I have a little plug-in battery powered amp with a headphone jack that complements this nicely. The pocket on the gig bag it comes with is big enough to fit the lap stand, my portable amp, strings, picks, etc.
I did end up gifting this guitar and picking up the "acoustic" version of this product for the following reasons:
- The input jack for the electric version is located on the back, making plugging in my little portable headphone amp uncomfortable. This is not an issue with the acoustic version, as the input jack is on the side.
- The pick-up is located very close to the bridge, so you get quite a thin sound out of this when amplified. The might be desirable for particular styles, but I play a lot of jazz and folk, so it's a bit brittle sounding for me. The acoustic version with the piezo pickup sounds much warmer. Of course this doesn't matter when it's not plugged in.
I also wish there was a volume knob on these guitars, although I think that is on the "pro" version of this line. But that's more money than I wanted to spend.
Overall I love this. It keeps me practicing and makes traveling with a guitar hassle free. I doubt I'd want to perform with this instrument, but that's not really what it's for.
