The RuLepic is a fine reed, and though I always sound beautiful when I play :) it is much easier to play beautiful when you have such a great reed to work with. I find that more of the box has reeds that are useable, just be careful that you don't use a reed too long or else the sound degrades, but that is just like any other reed. You can use the RuLepic reeds longer, if you don't damage them, and they really d o help you produce a more precise sound.
These are the reeds that find their way to the front of my reed case, the ones I play for concerts, and they don't exhibit some of the sound and tuning problems I've found with other reeds. Sometimes I need to work their tips and rails a bit, but their design is sound and they are very consistent.
I started playing on these reeds at the beginning of this new year because my professor was forcing me to switch off of my beloved Mitchell Lurie's. I was really irritated but the first reed I pulled out of the box sounded great and I immediately hopped on the Vandoren bandwagon. These reeds are made so well and play so consistently. I may have been resistant about switching at first but I couldn't be happier with the results.
I play on a patricola and a buffet and these reeds are some of the best for projection. I prefer something a bit brighter for solo and band but for orchestra they are great.
I wanted a reed that was slightly thicker than my current reed (3.5 V12) but still had a consistent stock within the box. Having used Vandoren for years, I selected the 56 Rue Lepic and fell in love. This is a great product that gives you the clarity of every Vandoren but is slightly thicker to make the transition easier.
This reed really is the finest out there! It improves one's tone dramatically, even on a cheap plastic clarinet. The tone becomes suddenly fuller, vibrant, woody, and "sweet", like a clarinet should be. The altissimo register even sounds good. A great buy!!!
These reeds are fantastic!!!! The sound is superb, and they are not at all hard to play or at all sqeaky. My clarinet sounds rich and very sweet in the upper registers. I would recomend these to any serious musician!!!!
I absolutely love this reed. It improved my tone a great deal when I began using them.
And I also have found less "bad" reeds within a box than I do with other kinds and brands of reeds.
They are usually pretty easy to break in, and last a decent amount of time compared to other reeds I have used.
I would definitely recomment this to any player.
For a long time I had known about the 56 Rue Lepic reeds but never wanted to try them because in traditional stores they're so much more expensive than traditional reeds or V12 reeds. The price here is right though so I tried them and now I'll never go back. For a concert setting, they're spectacular and allow for the best tone and incredibly clear articulation. Granted, I wouldn't use one for marching band (I'm a member of the Michigan Marching Band) outside of a concert performance setting. I'd never risk breaking one on the field. They just work to well! They make a great reed for experienced players looking to get just a little bit more. If you're debating, give them a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
I live in New Mexico, so the lack of humidity in my area may affect my opinions on reeds...I've been playing on the V12s for many years now, and after finding that there are less good reeds in a box, I decided to try something else. So I tried these, and found that a good 56 is better than a good V12, though harder to come across. With some fixing, these reeds can be great, but don't expect to open the box and find that they all play well.
