Vandoren 56 Rue Lepic Bb Clarinet Reeds56 Rue Lepic is the address where Vandoren reeds were first produced and as such is widely regarded as the home of reed innovation. Designed from thicker cane, the 56 emits a rich, centered and extremely pure sound while providing maximum stability in all registers. Its quick response ensures precision in the most difficult passages without sacrificing the extraordinary round and warm sound.Precision is extended to the new numbering system that offers a more specific range of strengths in each box for consistent performance. The 56 Rue Lepic comes in humidity balanced factory fresh packaging so all reeds play as though you toured the Paris factory and selected them by hand at 56 Rue Lepic.

I wanted a reed that was slightly thicker than my current reed (3.5 V12) but still had a consistent stock within the box. Having used Vandoren for years, I selected the 56 Rue Lepic and fell in love. This is a great product that gives you the clarity of every Vandoren but is slightly thicker to make the transition easier.
I used V12's for a while and switched to Vandoren Selects. I found no difference in quallity of the best V12 compared to the Selects, except that the Selects, had more usable reeds in the box.
The 56 Rue Lepic were a whole different ball game.
Not only were they more consistant from reed to reed, but the entire box played.
The biggest difference was in strengths. I find the energy expended for 2.5 reeds much less than 3.0 reeds. The trade off is measued in hours of play. I get tired out faster using 3.0 reeds. The people who use 4's must have lungs of steel, :)
The problem with the 2.5 is that they make B flat, (A#) sound like I'm playing a kazoo, instead of a clarinet. For certain types of music, that's OK.
Whereas the 3.0 make less of a mockery of playing B flat. I usuall try to avoid B flat or re-write the music to avoid playing a lot of B flats in a song. ( Hard to do with Hymns!)
The only reeds I use are the 56 and the v12s. The 56 have amazing sound and I consistently find many great, useable reeds in each box. Spend the extra money and buy these reeds, or learn to make your own.
These are the reeds that find their way to the front of my reed case, the ones I play for concerts, and they don't exhibit some of the sound and tuning problems I've found with other reeds. Sometimes I need to work their tips and rails a bit, but their design is sound and they are very consistent.
These reeds helped me improve my tone a great deal. The sound is pure and round and simply beautiful. They usually respond well the first time and last a long time. NOTE: I had poor results when I first switched, so instead of buying my usual 3.5, I bought a box of size 4, which worked much better. So if the first box doesn't work for you, I would recommend at least trying to slightly boost the strength of your reed.
I just recently started using the 56's. They are amazing! The response is superb, and high notes come out beautifully. My clarinet professor greatly approves! I use number 3's on a Vandoren M13 mouthpiece with a Bois Classique ligature on a Leblanc (by Backun) Cadenza. I would highly recommend these reeds.
This reed really is the finest out there! It improves one's tone dramatically, even on a cheap plastic clarinet. The tone becomes suddenly fuller, vibrant, woody, and "sweet", like a clarinet should be. The altissimo register even sounds good. A great buy!!!
I play on a patricola and a buffet and these reeds are some of the best for projection. I prefer something a bit brighter for solo and band but for orchestra they are great.
The RuLepic is a fine reed, and though I always sound beautiful when I play :) it is much easier to play beautiful when you have such a great reed to work with. I find that more of the box has reeds that are useable, just be careful that you don't use a reed too long or else the sound degrades, but that is just like any other reed. You can use the RuLepic reeds longer, if you don't damage them, and they really d o help you produce a more precise sound.
I absolutely love this reed. It improved my tone a great deal when I began using them.
And I also have found less "bad" reeds within a box than I do with other kinds and brands of reeds.
They are usually pretty easy to break in, and last a decent amount of time compared to other reeds I have used.
I would definitely recomment this to any player.
