Comparing this to a Van Doren B45 and a Selmer S80-115, I can get about 4 to 6 db louder! A big, open sound, lets your clarinet sound like a clarinet, but more of it! If you are used to a small opening, you may find the pitch hard to control. If you are used to an open mouthpiece and want more volume, this is it!
I have used this piece for a couple years now, and it sounds/feels great! Very loud sound for cutting through a traditional swing/dixieland band without amplification, and not too difficult to control once you get used to it. I have a Leblanc Pete Fountain horn and I currently play on Rico Royal #2.5 filed reeds.
This mouthpiece affords me the flexibility I need in my diverse musical applications. As a doubler, this mouthpiece projects in a pit as well as in a big band setting. The wide tip opening allows me (saxophone player) to put a lot of air through this mouthpiece and still maintain a beautiful clarinet tone with great intonation. Vandoren got this one right!
