Vandoren Alto Sax V16 ReedsThe Vandoren V16 alto sax reed is the thickest Vandoren reed cut. The thicker cut creates a deep, harmonically rich sound with lots of attack. It addition, the thicker cut lends a depth and color to the sound that is truly special. Some saxophonists prefer a less ornamented sound than the one that V16 reeds promote, but if you can become accustomed to the V16's properties and tame them, it just may become essential equipment for your unique signature sound.

I began as a classical player and now am mainly jazz. These reeds are appropriate for either type of playing. While I have occasionally found a box that has only 3-4 decent reeds, generally the quality is good. I started out using the traditional Vandoren reeds and switched to these because I find that they allow for greater projection and a more focused tone which is essential for jazz playing, and which I find now has greatly improved the sound of my classical work as well.
These are my absolute favorite reeds. Though I haven't been playing for too long, I've tried quite a few different reeds, trying to find the best for marching band, jazz band, region band, etc. and I find these to be EXTREMELY versatile. They've got the perfect volume for marching band without being bright. In the concert scene, they've got a full tone which blends beautifully with French horns, though you've got to find a nice ligature (I use a Rovner dark), and when it comes to jazz or rock or anything where you just feel like jammin' out, these reeds can really let loose. Overall, I love these reeds, though; it does take some time getting used to. Expect to spend quite a bit of time adjusting yourself to get what you want from these reeds.
These are very durable and quality reeds. I have used these in marching, jazz and concert band(size 3.5 and with different MP's). I would recommend these over Blue Box Vandorens(sorry for those who like Blue Box better). beginners and proffesionals could get good sound out of these reeds really. Longest life-span i've gotten out of these reeds is 1 1/2-2 weeks. Quality product!
I've been playing Rico reeds for many years now, and once I got my hands on these Vandoren V16 reeds, I've never gone back. They play so beautifully. I noticed great improvement with my tone and overall playing. If you really know what you're doing, you would pick up a pack of these reads!
I play alto saxophone for jazz band in my high school and my director suggested these reeds for me. I bought some, and when I tried them I could hear the difference in the sound. They are truly amazing reeds and I don't think I will switch to anything else anytime soon.
