Vandoren Java Red Tenor Saxophone ReedsVandoren Java Red tenor saxophone reeds are Vandoren's first file-cut jazz reed, Java Red reeds have more flexibility and tonal body and produce a full, rich, centered sound with phenomenal projection and extremely precise attacks. They have a thicker extremity and a more flexible pallet than Van Doren's Traditional series, and they allow greater vibration over a larger surface area with maximum elasticity. This type of vertebral column gives the musician much greater playing flexibility, as the resultant elasticity zone is very large. The Java Red will take your sound to a whole new level.

I'm going to start off by saying these reads are great!!! Everyone in the box plays extremly well. The sound has improved because of these reeds, and my altissimo register projects alot better, and is easy to sustain notes up there. If you love playing Jazz I recommend these, you can't go worng with them.
Lemme start w/ a reference frame. I'm a jazzer exclusively. My primary MPC is a Florida Link,I also play an MBII and a darker STM. I'm goin for bright w/ some body. I'd place this reed SOLIDLY darkest of the Basic Vandoren, V16 and ZZ. I use the V16 on the MBII and the ZZ on the Florida...You'd think I could use this reed on the MBII, but its too dark even for that. The strength is a 1/8 to a 1/4 HARDER than the equivalent V16 (sorta like opposite of the ZZ being that much softer for you ZZ'ers). You can feel safe backing down a 1/2 strength from your Rico or Vandoren number (I consider those 2 pretty comparable strengths.) I tried 3 reeds from the box, afterwards I wouldn't have been able to tell them apart....all 3 the same. Very consistent. I'd say they're more stable than the "basic" Vandoren (which I find to be WILDLY unstable)....and yes, darker. So if you're lookin for a dark, Stan-Getz-in-the-towel-closet kinda tone, this reed is your dream come true. I, on the other hand, have no use for them other than I'll use these for practice between boxes of my preferred.
