"It's great for the intermediate"

When searching for "THE" mouthpiece some years ago, I eventually came across this beauty. It is one of the better mouthpieces out there and stays true. I play on a Buffet R13 with Vandoren reeds and this mouthpiece was just a match! I have a Selmer and when I played it with this mouthpiece, it wasn't too great. So watch out for that. I would really recommend this to an intermediate player only because it's one of those mouthpieces that helps your tone grow farther than imagined. I still like to pick this up from time to time and play with it. It still plays like the day it did when I got it!

This mouthpiece has a very dark, centered and rich sound with a lot of overtones. It's very vibrant and colorful. It isn't as free blowing compared to other mouthpieces but it has a more focused sound. It gives plenty of projection, and freedom of expression. This is the ideal orchestra mouthpiece and sound. It's a little picky on reeds, but if you break them in well, it works great.

I'm not exactly a professional on this sort of stuff, but I immediately noticed when I switched from my old mouthpiece (the one that came with the clarinet) to the M13, my horn sounded a lot better. I also tried the B45, but to my ears, the M13 sounded better.

"Not bad, but not my favorite"

I bought this mouthpiece a year and a half ago and played it on both a LeBlanc Noblet and a Buffet R13. I found that the sound was very smooth and compact as they advertise, as well as pretty good intonation. However, I thought the tone was slightly too bright and I didn't like how hard I had to work to control the sound in the altissimo and upper clarion ranges. At those points I felt like the sound was always on the brink of squeaking, if you know what that feeling is. Finally, harder reeds were required to play this mouthpiece (normally I'm on a 3.5, but had to step up to a 4). So all in all, it wasn't bad and it most certainly did sound better on the R13 than the Noblet. The sound was great, but while I was making the sound the mouthpiece wasn't exceptionally comfortable to play.

I use this mouthpiece on my Buffet R13. I remember at first I absolutely despised it due to the fact that it is a bit more closed and not as free blowing as my previous mouthpiece, so for a while I stopped using it. However, I recently started using it again with a high strength reed(Vandoren 3.5)and it has actually improved my tone quality a lot. It allows me to hit the altissimo range with ease without jeopardizing the tone. In conclusion, if you use a stronger strength reed on this mouthpiece, it is great for intermediate or even advanced or professional clarinetists.
