Working at a music store, I am always the first to try new mouthpieces when they come in. I have yet to find any mouthpiece, including all of the Vandoren mouthpieces, that matches the tone of this mouthpiece. It's dark. You can play soft. You can play loud without blasting. Your tone won't spread. You won't fall in and out of tune. It's an amazing mouthpiece. You really cannot beat the price. It's amazing.
I went through about 6 mouthpieces before this beauty. 5RV (second best besides the M13L), 5RVL, B45, B45L, B40, and M30 (the best so far besides the M13L). All of them sounded somewhat unsatisfactory, and some of them even stuffy and very agonizing. I was looking for a mouthpiece that will produce a beautiful sound for me. After going through 6 mouthpieces (and spending over 200 dollars at least), I decided to try this one out at a music vendor. I will never forget that moment - easiness of playing, beauty and evenness of tone, reed-friendly characteristic, and staying in tune (I had to occasionally pull out and in the barrel with the M30 I had before). I was blown away and wanted to buy the mouthpiece, but the price was very expensive ($100), so I just came back home and ordered the mouthpiece on WWBW. Now I am happy with my tone and sound. I love this item, and would say that this is Vandoren's best mouthpiece (there's also M13, which gives brighter sound. I wanted dark sound, so I chose M13L instead). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The M13 Lyre is a mouthpiece that I keep coming back to. It has a lovely dark sound, but without the flabbiness I've found in other dark playing mouthpieces. The response and ease of playing is great, too. I am very happy with this mouthpiece for my own performing needs, and I have recommended it to several students as well. No complaints about the price, either!
I find this mouthpiece to be amazingly responsive. It produces a consistent, even sound trough all registers. It sounds good enough for a pro, and is easy enough to play for a student. Very versatile.
This mouthpiece is just an amazing mouthpiece, and really I have nothing bad to say about it at all. Right out of the box, it sounded amazing. I?m also using Vandorens LC21L leather ligature with the three interchangeable reed plates. With that ligature, I really found the sound that I have been looking for ever since I picked up the clarinet over 10 years ago. The reason I was looking for another mouthpiece is because I?m currently involved in the Sweeney Todd musical right now that?s being put on by the local community college, and the mouthpiece I had was just terrible. Never liked it to begin with. So I started looking online, and I read the reviews about this one, and amongst all the others I have tried (too many to list), this one is the best. It helps produce a nice deep and dark tone way down in the lower register, and responds to articulation very well. The higher notes are fairly easy to hit as well and you don?t lose the sound quality either, which is bomb! It even responds exceptionally well in the middle register when you're going up and down so you don?t have to worry about squeaking or your sound getting fuzzy. this is THE BEST MOUTHPIECE I have ever tried, and I recommend this to any musician of any level who is looking for a classic dark round sound that you would hear on NPR radio.
I've used the following mouthpieces before: the B45, 5RV Lyre, M13, and this one, and for me it plays the best. Before I switched to this mouthpiece, I was using the 5RV Lyre which some were telling me had a sound that was too "bright," which the M13 Lyre has fixed. In comparison to the 5RV Lyre, this mouthpiece is not as free-blowing nor is it quite as open, to which takes some time to adjust.
This mouthpiece was recommended to me by my private instructor. He has been playing for about 60 years and this is by far the best mouthpiece he has ever used. I love how the mouthpiece gives a great response on all of the registers, especially the high register (formerly the torture the listener register). Gives a great bright sound. I just switched to this mouthpiece from the M13. It feels the same to play, but the sound is much better. Look at your mouthpiece. If it says "Premier" on it, then switch to this mouthpiece. You'll be glad you did. You cannot beat the price of the M13 Lyre either.
This mouthpiece is very free blowing, which is good in most situations I've used it for a year now, and comparing it to others, including some of twice the value, I prefer this mouthpiece. Overall it is an all-around mouthpiece good for fast technical pieces and slow expressive pieces. I use Vandoren 56s and V12s, depending on the tonal qualities I am looking for. Paired with the Vandoren leather ligature with exchangeable pressure plates, this mouthpiece is amazing for soloing, which is what most of my playing consists of.
I bought this mouthpiece after my band teacher in 8th grade suggested it to me. He has his doctorate in clarinet performance. After trying it out at a local music store, I was sold. It works great with 3.5 or 4 size blue box Vandoren's. I broke my original one two years ago and had to use some stock mouthpiece one of my friends had for about a week, it was really terrible. If I ever break it again/loose it/have my horn stolen I'd buy another without a second thought. It's great for chamber work, solos in church, and wind ensemble settings. Unmic'd it doesn't have enough projection for Jazz, but that's what my Brilhart Ebolin 3* is for. That's a mouthpiece that can cut through the mix. I've tried the B45 and it just doesn't do it for me, it plays to muffled sounding for me.
This mouthpiece allows for the production of the darkest, deepest, richest sound on my Yamaha SEV Clarinet. It?s also extremely free blowing. I use 3.5+ Rue Lepics on this thing and never look back.
