Wow! I've been a clarinet player for a long time, and finally, I think I have finally found the ultimate mouthpiece! Great tone, and not difficult to blow with harder reeds.
I have played Vandoren mouthpieces on several clarinets, and the m15 just seems to work with everyone. I like to use a harder Mitchell Lurie reed with a LeBlanc ligature. My only complaint is that this mouthpiece is consistently sharp for me. I would want to say it's my embouchure but after lessons with it, I've concluded it's purely the mouthpiece because when I play a b45, I am perfectly in tune every time. Otherwise, it is much easier to play a harder reed and get a superb tone out of it.
I've been playing clarinet for about 7 years. Until about a year ago I had been playing with a beginner mouthpiece. When I finally decided to get a little more serious I purchased this mouthpiece and what a difference it made! With a L?g?re 3.5 reed I can get superb tone. A few things I noticed while first trying this mouthpiece is that you need a harder reed to play, but it doesn't affect your endurance. Harder reeds are actually easier to play. The lower notes are easy to hit while the altissimo register is awesome! With this mouthpiece I've even discovered 2nd and 3rd harmonics on my instrument. For this price I'd say this is a fantastic buy. I'd suggest this mouthpiece to anyone.
I have had the M15 Profile 88 13 Series mouthpiece for about a year, and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, however, I have used this for marching, and the quality deteriorated. As long as you take good care of the mouthpiece, there's no need to spend a lot on a Clark Fobes when this mouthpiece is just as good. To the people who say it's sharp, the most likely reason is because you didn't get the 13 Series, which is made to tune to A440, used in America, while both the Traditional and normal Profile 88 are made to tune to A442, which is used in Europe. I'm actually usually flat on the mouthpiece. This mouthpiece with a Vandoren Optimum ligature and Gonzalez FOF size 4 reeds makes me sound amazing.
The M 15 is an excellent mouthpiece for most students and some professionals, and I personally like it best of the Vandoren line. I find the intonation spot-on, and not sharp, as some reviewers suggest. You will, however, be sharp if you order one pitched at 442 and play with groups who use 440! Tone is warm, centered, and typically more flexibile than the M30 and more interesting than the 5RV or B45. Order several and choose the one that works the best. (This is a medium mouthpiece, so if you are playing a very close facing at present, you will not appreciate it.) Many of my students play this mouthpiece. Great value for the price.
