NEW - "Choose the CL5 over the CL4"

The CL5 is sweet-sounding and easy to control from top to bottom of the register. You'll want to use it when you're playing classical music, but it's not robust enough for jazz unless you use a soft reed. The CL4 is similar, but with a tighter feel, presumably due to a smaller tip opening. The matching ligature uses a single screw, and is simple, clean in design, and not bulky. It's got a nice slot that settles the reed in perfect position.

Vandoren has done it again. This mouthpiece is awesome on my Buffett R13. Have been playing the B-45 Dot for several years. Always had a great sound with it. Wanted to try this piece out of curiosity.First i tried the CL4. Found it to be very close to the B45. When I tried the 5 wow what a sound. Big round and full with a Vandoren V-12 31/2. Now I'm hooked with the CL5. Sounds like a commercial for Vandoren. But believe me I've played just about every other mouthpiece the market has to offer. This one is a winner. Give it a shot

Although not unhappy with my Vandoren M-30 (on an R-13), I was curious about the CL-4/CL-5. Within minutes I could tell that this was the most responsive mouthpiece I have ever played. (I wound up keeping the CL-4, although they were so similar, it was a difficult choice). This piece has both excellent projection, being incredibly free-blowing, as well as depth of tone, alive and colorful. The problem with other pieces I have tried is that those that project well can tend to overemphasize the highs, and can be shrill or lack presence or fullness, while those that give dark, rich tone can be too muffled and not project as well. The CL-4 does both. As a doubler, it has given me the closest to the "ideal sound" compared to any other piece I have played (including Gigliotti, Grabner Kaspar model, Eddie Daniels, Selmer HS*, and Selmer S--which are all excellent mouthpieces, with good tone and projection--but which did not have that extra responsiveness and ease of projection that the CL-4 provided me). I think one could easily spend 3-4 times the price for a comparable alternative, and spend many hours searching. I am simply delighted at what Vandoren has done in creating this mouthpiece.
