I found out that this is a great reed On an every day gig they last longer than the other cuts because they have a thicker heart. The thinner tip help easing the articulations. The sound is beautifull and centered I use them for popular music with excelent results (with a Ponzol M2 Stainless Steel 110 mouthpiece), althought I know they where designed for Classical
Very good reeds to start off. I personnaly like the coated reeds. I forget the name they are either vandoren or rico. These reeds play very well though. they last a very long time.
I have been playing saxophone professionally for 15-years and these reeds never fail to please. Some will say these reeds are not meant for Jazz, but I use these reeds exclusively with a Dukoff D9 and Guardala MBII and the combination is fanominal!! These reeds deliver excellent power, tonal depth, articulation and control which make them excellent for the studio musician or the Jazz musician looking for a more powerful tone. I highly recommend these reeds, the definitely deliver in any situation or location.
I've been playing professionally all over the world for over 40 years and I've always come back to these standard Vandoren #4's. As all reed players, my complaints differ from venue to venue depending on the humidity etc. But, these reeds deliver and are dependable. I recently noticed I only had 1 reed left and I'd been playing it for several months. I ordered another box of the several types Vandoren has out there. After going through the whole box - I trashed them and went back to my funky old one and ordered new basic Vandoren's. North - South - East Coast - West Coast - Vegas desert etc. They can be counted on.
These reeds are way better than the other Vandoren reeds. I use them with a Selmer Soloist C** mouthpiece.
