Wow! I'm a student, but I listen to others with different reeds play. I always use these. The others squeak in the high reg esters, but my notes always come out perfectly. I recommend these to anyone who plays clairnet, but doesn't need to play perfectly.
The Vandoren reeds are good for intermediate players. In the 6th grade we had started on the basic Rico reed size 2.5. The strength on the basic Rico reed wasnt very steady, much like the way the basic Vandoren. I didnt really like the way that it was inconsistant with the sound. In the seventh grade we switched from a strength of 3 to 3.5 in Vandoren, but it was still very inconsistant. Then in the 8th and 9th grade we began playing on Rico Reserves and Rico Grand Concert Evolution reeds. I really like their consistancy alot better. It is well worth the money to play on the more expensive Rico reeds. Even in Marching Band you can hear difference in the more expensive Ricos and the Vandorens. Listen to us play in concert or in marching band. The quality of the sound is so much better with the Ricos!!!
These reeds are often heavy on the tip on the left side. (This is a tendency of Vandoren's I don't like.) It's a good step up from Rico regular reeds and Mitchell Lurie reeds. I recommend these for high school students. I don't like the consistency of the amount of "bad reeds" in a box though. If you're will to try something else, I'd recommend a step up to V12 reeds.
Vandoren makes a great reed. The classic cut produces a vibrant lively sound. They are a nice dense cane, better than some of the porous varieties other brands are selling. It gives a richer, more resonant tone and a reed that lasts.
I buy 3.5 strength reeds, but sometimes they feel like 2.5 or 4 strength. I recommend buying Vandoren reeds in the silver box, the extra money is worth getting the strength you bought.
These reeds were recommended to me by my clarinet teacher after discovering that Rico reeds, the reeds I have been using, were not very good in quality. Vandoren Reeds are great, I have already noticed improvements in my tone and articulation. I recommend getting These Vandoren Traditional reeds. As soon as I am ready, I think I will advance to the Vandoren V-12 Reeds.
I have been using these reeds for 3 years and just recently switched to Vandoren V12's. These are still great reeds and can produce a very nice sound but I have found them to be inconsistent. There are usually only a few reeds in each box that really plays nicely. Still a great reed for the money though!
I tried several brands of reeds for my Bb clarinet (as well as G clarinet, which uses a Bb mouthpiece), and it must be said Vandoren reeds are the best Ive tried so far, also considering their price.
I have been playing clarinet for 5+ years and marched for 3. I used these reeds throughout marching band and concert band and the sound quality is amazing. I have used these since I have played clarinet and when I have auditions these reeds make me sound my best. There no squeaking whatsoever since I have played with them. They are definitely a great quality for a low price!
I recently switched from Rico reeds to Vandoren reeds, and the difference is unbelievable! I feel that my sound is much more open, and it is easier to get the higher notes. I would recommend this product to any serious clarinetist and saxophonists too. Now that I have played on Vandoren reeds, I will never go back to Rico. Overall, this is an amazing product: 5 stars.
