I tried several brands of reeds for my Bb clarinet (as well as G clarinet, which uses a Bb mouthpiece), and it must be said Vandoren reeds are the best Ive tried so far, also considering their price.
These are excellent reeds! After leaving the beginner level, everyone should switch to these. Be warned though; these reeds are tougher than most. I went from Rico to Vandoren and if you raise the Rico number by almost 1 you get the strength of a Vandoren. I use these reeds all the time now. They are excellent reeds that last me quite a while, considering I don't practice as much as I should. I recommend these to all players over a beginning level, only because they are quite an investment if one is not fully dedicated to clarinet
Vandoren makes a great reed. The classic cut produces a vibrant lively sound. They are a nice dense cane, better than some of the porous varieties other brands are selling. It gives a richer, more resonant tone and a reed that lasts.
Being an intermediate clarinet player and desperate to advance from my Rico reeds, vandoren B flat clarinet reeds have a beautiful rich tone I would reccomend these reeds to beginner and intermediate players alike.
I started using Vandoren reeds awhile ago and since then i have completely LOVED them. I only use them on special occasions and i practice on Rico's. Right now I am using a 3 and it gives me SO MUCH control in the upper register.
The Vandoren reeds are good for intermediate players. In the 6th grade we had started on the basic Rico reed size 2.5. The strength on the basic Rico reed wasnt very steady, much like the way the basic Vandoren. I didnt really like the way that it was inconsistant with the sound. In the seventh grade we switched from a strength of 3 to 3.5 in Vandoren, but it was still very inconsistant. Then in the 8th and 9th grade we began playing on Rico Reserves and Rico Grand Concert Evolution reeds. I really like their consistancy alot better. It is well worth the money to play on the more expensive Rico reeds. Even in Marching Band you can hear difference in the more expensive Ricos and the Vandorens. Listen to us play in concert or in marching band. The quality of the sound is so much better with the Ricos!!!
I recently switched from Rico reeds to Vandoren reeds, and the difference is unbelievable! I feel that my sound is much more open, and it is easier to get the higher notes. I would recommend this product to any serious clarinetist and saxophonists too. Now that I have played on Vandoren reeds, I will never go back to Rico. Overall, this is an amazing product: 5 stars.
There's an old saying, "Don't change something unless it's broke." The other reeds I used to use made my tone sound broke and as if I couldn't reach my potential. When I was advised to try Vandoren, they were my "fix." I've played Bb clarinet for 8 years and for the last 4 years these are the only reeds I've used. They present great quality and Woodwind Brasswind tops this with a great price. You won't be disappointed with these reeds!
I have been playing clarinet for 5+ years and marched for 3. I used these reeds throughout marching band and concert band and the sound quality is amazing. I have used these since I have played clarinet and when I have auditions these reeds make me sound my best. There no squeaking whatsoever since I have played with them. They are definitely a great quality for a low price!
I had been playing my clarinet with Rico Royal reeds for about 5 years when my clarinet teacher suggested I buy some Vandoren reeds. It was well worth the investment. While not all of the reeds that come in the box are good, most of them are not only usable but have a great tone and amazing durability. I am not an expert on clarinet reeds, but they are the best I have used in my experience so far.
