Description
Different cut of reed from one of the world's most highly regarded manufacturers.

Vandoren V12 Alto Saxophone Reeds
The V12 reeds are a departure from Vandoren's traditional design in that they have a thicker tip and a longer pallet. The result is a deeper, richer tone that has more body in the attack of each note's envelope. This reed is catching on rapidly with many players. If you have not yet tried the V12 reeds, it is well worth a roll of the dice to get a box. It may well become your reed of choice.

"The best reed for classical work"

These reeds are far supreior to vandoren traditionals(I used to play them and they used to be my favorite classical reed) in every way. These reeds excell in all factors(darkness of tone, roundness of tone, cocsistency(9 out of 10 played for me), ease of articulation, richness of tone and blended range) above all other reeds.

I typically play the Vandoren Blue Box reed and still do today. The V 12 cut is a good cut and more of the reeds played right out of the box. The only thing to know is that these reeds are in fact cut almost a half strength thicker as compared to their blue box counter parts. So, a strength 3 for V 12 would be roughly a 3.5 for the blue box. Only get the size 3.5 in V 12 if you have the patience to whittle the reed down to your preferences.

I've had a very hard time finding a reed to work well with the tip opening of my C*, but this is the one. The blue box reeds weren't very flexible, the 3 1/2 java felt great, but was too buzzy in the high register. The V12 strength 3 has given me new excitement about my classical playing. Try them! By the way, the strength is about even with the blue box.

I ordered these on a recommendation by a good friend of mine, and we play on the same strength reeds so I took her advice and ordered them. These reeds were so hard, I was out of breath in seconds. Really, they are not even with the blue box. About a half size thicker sounds about right. I spent a good deal of time sanding them down and they are playable, but it's definitely a hassle. I'm sure if I tried them a half-size lower, they would sound better. But heads up, you might want to order a half size down.

"One of the best reeds on the market"

This reed plays wonderfully. As soon as I opened up one and played it for the very first time, it ringed. With this reed I get a clear dark tone and precision with the combination of my vandoren optimum al4, vandoren optimum ligature, and selmer paris super action 80 series alto saxophone. This mouthpiece will change a classical player's mind about buying any rico reeds...
