Product Overview and Specifications
VANDOREN V16

Endorsement
Nelson Hill gave me a Vandoren V16! He said, Try it, you'll like it. I tried it. I like it! Eureka! At last, a sensible reed! They feel good and the percentage of usable reeds is incredible. Somebody is paying attention and I sleep a little better knowing that! The base is thicker giving my old, stretched ligature a better grip and the intonation, always a Vandoren tradition, remains true and spot on! - Saxophone Journal, May/June 1995

I began as a classical player and now am mainly jazz. These reeds are appropriate for either type of playing. While I have occasionally found a box that has only 3-4 decent reeds, generally the quality is good. I started out using the traditional Vandoren reeds and switched to these because I find that they allow for greater projection and a more focused tone which is essential for jazz playing, and which I find now has greatly improved the sound of my classical work as well.

These are my absolute favorite reeds. Though I haven't been playing for too long, I've tried quite a few different reeds, trying to find the best for marching band, jazz band, region band, etc. and I find these to be EXTREMELY versatile. They've got the perfect volume for marching band without being bright. In the concert scene, they've got a full tone which blends beautifully with French horns, though you've got to find a nice ligature (I use a Rovner dark), and when it comes to jazz or rock or anything where you just feel like jammin' out, these reeds can really let loose. Overall, I love these reeds, though; it does take some time getting used to. Expect to spend quite a bit of time adjusting yourself to get what you want from these reeds.
