Vandoren V16 Ebonite Baritone Saxophone MouthpieceThe V16 Hard Rubber Mouthpieces are inspired by the sound of the greatest jazzmen from the fifties to the present. The V16 mouthpiece blows easily and sounds great. These mouthpieces have great punch, yet maintain a smooth tone at any dynamic level. The V16 is available with 3 tip opening sizes: B5, B7, and B9. B5 is flexible in playing and application. B7 has the qualities of the V5 series B75 with the sound of the V16. B9 brings out the baritone’s power. Vandoren JAVA, V16 and ZZ reeds are recommended for these mouthpieces.

I got one of these in a B5 facing and it has been great, it makes a much fuller sound than my other mouthpiece (Yamaha 5C). I tried i with an optimum and a leather and between the two the leather was much better, the optimum was brighter and had more edge but sounded kind of thin, not the bigger sound I wanted. It also works for classical music if you try all of the different ligatures, or in my case ligature inserts. I would highly recommend trying one!
I have been playing on a V16 B9 mouthpiece for a little over a month now and it has been great. I was playing on a hard rubber Berg Larsen before and the B9 has just blown it out of the water. I am able to push the mouthpiece as loud and hard as I can but at the same time play quiet. I personally play on an old Martin Bb bari saxophone and it fits with the horn great. I would strongly suggest trying this mouthpiece out.
