This mouthpiece is probably the best thing that ever happened to me.(as far as music goes) I play on a Saxophone.com tenor sax model and it roars when the V16 is on it along V16 #3 reeds. I got the T7 which I was surprised to see, was the lowest facing available. But the rich, solid tone this mouthpiece provides is an amazing jazz tone. By talking into the instrument while playing, I can now make a mean, nasty, powerful tone like that raspy sound of Clarence Clemmons. I can listen to the classical jazz stuff and create a prefect match in sound compared to John Coltrane and several other legends. (TheyÆre not lying when they say, "This mouthpiece is designed to imitate the sound response of jazz mouthpieces from the 50's.") All I can say is that if you want an amazing mouthpiece that will allow you to create the prefect TRUE JAZZ sound, choose Vandoren V16.You won't regret it.

In my continual search for that dark but vibrant jazz tenor sax mouthpiece I tried this V16 (T7). It was very similar to my custom adjusted Meyer 7M. (I also have a Berg Larson 105 1 SMS for an edgy sound that cuts through better.) This Vandoren V16 has a generic jazz sound that blends well (not a unique edgy sound) and responds well at all dynamics and articulations. It works, but it was not that special, vibrant, dark, slightly edgy sound I was hoping for.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

When I got this mouthpiece I had not played for around 9 years, so I had a long way to go. The first thing I noticed about the V16 T9 mouthpiece was that it didn't offer a lot of resistance. In only three weeks or so I began to get that classic tenor sax sound I was used to hearing. This mouthpiece is very consistent once you find the brand and strength of reed you need. Like I said, I was coming off a 9 year hiatus, so it took some time to find my groove. I am absolutely loving this mouthpiece.

Kirk Whalum plays a V16 T8 on a Keilwerth tenor. He has one of the finest tenor sounds I have ever heard. I recently purchased the Allora Paris Series Tenor at the same time I got the V16. I'm getting great results from both.

This is a great mouthpiece. A friend in jazz band gave it to me but it it's too bright for my taste on tenor. I stick to my ny link on tenor. I love the piece on soprano! Great sound! I plan on trying it out on my alto I'm buying from a friend!

I have been playing tenor for 46 yrs. I have a wide collection of horns and mpc. Fourteen various vintage and manufacture of sax and a ton of mpc to include custom. Just got the V16 T11, different animal than the V16 T10. Easy blowing and very well made Spot on intonation on my old Buescher Big B tenor. Speaks easily in all registers and dynamic levels. Big bonus is the cost of owning one of these great mpc. Vandoren is surely one of the best on the market.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I am normally a metal otto link player, but lately, I have just not been getting the sound I wanted from my piece. I decided to order a Vandoren v16 mouthpiece to try since I had heard so many positive reviews of it. I normally try to avoid hard rubber pieces such as because they tend to be way too dark for my taste (I generally try to have more of a middle of the road sound). I have tried HR mouthpieces such as Jody Jazz, Morgan, Meyer, and even a few vintage HR otto links that I really didn't care for. That was not the case with the T9 that I ordered. I was shocked at how well this piece projected. The tone was rich and full sounding, yet was very versatile. I could go from a very dark Dexter Gordon-like sound to a bright Brecker-like sound. The tuning was great in all octaves and I was able to maintain a full sound from top to bottom. I also noticed that this mouthpiece is very free-blowing considering that is has a medium-large chamber. I felt that the Vandoren Java "green box" reeds were the best fit for the mouthpiece (Though everybody has different preferences). This is definitely one of the best mouthpieces I have ever played and I would highly recommend this piece to professionals and students alike because of the consistency of Vandoren products as well as the fact that this mouthpiece is a bargain at $124.99. If I were to recommend a ligature for this mouthpiece, it would be the Vandoren Optimum Ligature as I felt the mouthpiece had the best response with this ligature. Definitely give the v16 a try!

Very happy with the V 16!

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I recently recorded myself playing my Yannie 991/Vandoren V-16 #7/JaZZ reed # 3. I used a quality digital recorder and placed the mike close enough to capture every nuance. I was blown away with the wide ranged consistency of tonality, accurate pitch, and the endless expressive capabilities. I love the sound. I love the horn. I love the mouthpiece. I love the reed. I can't imagine playing any other set up for combo jazz and big band. I also use it in a classical sax quartet, and the V-16 allows me to blend in very well. I have tried others, but I honestly can't see paying more for a mouthpiece that is not really any better. Oh, I use the Rovner lig, if that makes any difference. Did I mention the very wide dynamic range of this set up? I also have an "8" when I don't have a long gig to play, because it has a slightly "heavier" quality, but with the same projection and expression. I feel as though these pieces were custom built just for me. Don't spend too much money on a mouthpiece unless it makes you a better player.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

The V16 is a great mouthpiece for so many reasons it has a big sound can be used in really a lot of styles of music i personal think from all the music i have played it creates a great sound for me and i play many types of music and it can adjust easily. What i like about the hard rubber compared to the metal is where you can really make a huge difference in the dynamic levels the metal version is just loud and know color really anyway by this because it will bring out whatever sound you are looking for

    Works for me

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I played flute, I have returned to tenor sax. I am playing a Keilwerth SX90R and after experimenting with several mouthpiece/reed combinations, I have settled on the Vandoren V16 (T7) mouthpiece with V16 2 1/2 reeds and find that this combination gives me a very big but easily controllable sound from the bottom through altissimo. The real surprise however is the great tone that this mouthpiece produces at low volume levels as well. It may not work for everyone but it works for me.
