I've been playing for over 30yrs. This mouthpiece allows me to reach all ranges (altissimos & lower registers) with the greatest of ease, and it stays in tune. Be sure and purchase the right ligature for maximum quality. Love the tone.
I have been using a more popular brand of mouthpiece for at least 10 years on soprano, and I got one of these and I can't seem to put it down. This is one of the best soprano mouthpieces.
I've used one of these for almost 25 years, and while I've tried many others over the years, I keep this one as my primary mouthpiece. It gives me a nice big sound, warm, but I can still wail & cut if I need to.
It's ability to give me a range of sounds/feels keeps me using it. It's a bit beat up, but just on the outside, but like those old Timex commercials, "it just keeps on ticking"!
I'm going to see about buying a new one, just to have as a back-up, and hope the same quality has remained over the years.
I ordered this mouthpiece two years ago. At this time I was playing on an L.A. Sax Series 1 soprano. I got the mouthpiece for when I doubled on soprano in my Jazz Ensemble. At the time I had been playing alto for years and had just picked up the soprano. When I first played on it the vandoren was great. I paired it with a Selmer single screw ligature and the tone was bright. Now it is years later and the mouthpiece has since become useless. It has been worn down far too easily from normal use. The baffle is scratching and the rubber is begging to go soft at the tip. I decided to get another and boy was it a strange experience.
It's 2 years since I got my first V5. I now play on a MacSax soprano (unlacquered) and have played many upon many of other soprano mouthpieces. This Vandoren is definitely a beginners mouthpiece. It is dull and unresponsive as compared to Meyer and Otto link's in the same price range. The mouthpiece is weak and obviously is fragile. The material is cheap and the tone overall is unattractive. I must say I recommend a Meyer Hard Rubber or Otto Link Hard Rubber.
