Description
ZZ reeds are the favorite of many top jazz artists.
  • Box of 10

Vandoren ZZ Alto Saxophone Reeds
Van Doren ZZ alto saxophone reeds are designed to supply what are often mutually opposing characteristics in a reed--depth of tone and immediate response. Added to this seemingly impossible solution to one of the reed musician's most enduring conundrums is the fact that ZZ reeds are free blowing and easy to play. Impossible you say? Put the lie to this bold claim if you can. All that’s left for you to do is play to become a believer.

Vandoren's ZZ reeds feature a unique relationship between the heart of the reed, where the tone is produced, and the thickness of the tip, which is responsible for vibration. The result is a reed with extraordinary tone and immediate response that is free-blowing even in the altissimo range. The ZZ reeds accomplish this immediate response without sacrificing brightness or tone quality.

Professional saxophonists like L.A. recording artist Gary Foster, Delmark recording artist Frank Catalano, and many others have made the switch to Vandoren’s ZZ reeds for both live performances and studio recordings. According to a Vandoren reeds chart, ZZ reeds feel one-half strength less thick in comparison to Vandoren Traditional reeds, and run even in strength with JAVA reeds. For example, a Vandoren ZZ strength 3 reed would feel equivalent to a Vandoren Traditional in strength 2.5.

These are the most amazing reeds I have ever played on. They are so easy to break in and they produce an amazing sound and tone. It takes such little air to produce a sound and they last a long time. This is definitely my favorite reed.

I love these reeds. They're some of the best I've ever played on. If you add the double cut (that line you'll find on standard blue box reeds) you'll find that it has the best sound for classical reeds. The standard ZZ is also great for Jazz. They sound at least as good as Java's and last much longer.

These reeds are the best i've ever played, great sound, amazing projection, round tone, and all these with a reed that is really easy to play!! I used to play vandoren traditional 3 with my metal Selmer mouthpiece, now I can't use anything but ZZs 3 and a half. I fell in love with sound of my saxophone all over again... I can't stop playing my horn!!!

I tried the ZZ reeds about a year ago and have been playing nothing else since. They play well right out of the box, require very little break in time and hold up better than the Java reeds. Even though they are classified a "jazz" reed, I use them for concert work as well and I am very satisfied with the response. I have all of my saxophone students play them. I highly recommend this reed!

These are by far the best reeds I've ever played. Even out of the Vandoren line of reeds. These are the only reeds that give me the response as well as sound that I want. Can be used from jazz all the way to concert. With the flow pack designed, every single reed comes out of the box/vac pack ready to play. I with the highest regards recommend these reeds to anyone and everyone.
