Vibrass Lip MassagerThe Vibrass Lip Massager is a completely new device for massaging the lips and facial muscles. A vibrating mouthpiece gently massages the lips, increasing blood circulation. Ideal for use before or after playing, Vibrass can be used to aid in blood circulation during warm-up or can help to relax and regenerate the embouchure after a concert or practicing. Vibrass features ten different mouthpiece adapters to fit all types of brass mouthpieces, or can also be used with oboe or bassoon reeds.

Now, I should not be writing a review, because I have not yet SEEN a Vibrass, much less used one. Like the (currently, only) other reviewer, I was skeptical when I saw this in the Denis Wick catalog, branded with the Denis Wick name. When I met Stephen Wick--who now runs the firm that his father started-- in October 2011, I asked him about sales and response to Vibrass. His response: "Well, *actually* there are some commercial trumpet players playing Broadway shows in London's West End who use these. We had one player in particular who LOST his, and was rather frantically distressed about that, and fortunately I was able to deliver one personally to him the same day he called." (The Denis Wick factory is in Poole, about two hours southwest of London, but Steven lives in northern London, and was able to swing by his "client's" theater on his way home that evening.) So, maybe it sounds a bit strange, but apparently it has its fans. Me, I can remember a run of a couple of months playing Jerry Herman's "La Cage aux Folles." "La Cage" is quite a blow, more even than a Bruckner symphony! I was on the second trombone part, but even there my face felt like it had been hit by a truck, especially in long days of rehearsal leading up to the show. (This was just after I finished Juilliard, so yes, six-hour days of practice, including learning Mahler symphonies, was pretty normal.) All of the brass players there with me doing "La Cage" (some of the best pros in the business then) felt the same way. I think if Steven Wick had showed up with a box full of these one night at the stage door, he would have sold all of us in the brass section a Vibrass. Ha,ha!
Do people really have money to waste on a product like this? Enough already with trying to promote something and pretend it actually has value. How about pick up a horn and go to the practice room and practice. This is ridiculous, and for WWBW to carry an item like this really degrades their reputation.
